The Football League Third Division was the third tier of the English football league system in 1920–21 and again from 1958 until 1992. When the FA Premier League was formed, the Third Division become the fourth tier of English football. In 2004, following the formation of the Football League Championship, the division was renamed Football League Two.

The 2012–13 season is the 92nd season of competitive football for Rochdale A.F.C., a professional English football club based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Rochdale return to Football League Two for 2012–13 following a two-season stint in League One which ended with a last-place finish in 2011–12. Rochdale began their 2012–13 Football League Two season with a 0–0 draw with Northampton. They entered into three cup competitions in the first round due to the league table they are in. John Coleman's and Jimmy Bell's contracts were terminated by Rochdale on 21 January 2013 following a poor run in form.

The 2018–19 season is Rochdale's 112th year in existence and their fifth consecutive season in League One. Along with competing in League One, the club participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. The season covers the period from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.

The 2019–20 Rochdale A.F.C. season was the club's 113th year in existence and their sixth consecutive season in League One. Along with competing in League One, the club participate in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. The season covered the period from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.

The 1939–40 season saw Rochdale begin to compete for their 19th season in the Football League Third Division North, however with the outbreak of World War 2, the league was abandoned, and a wartime league was formed. The F.A. Cup was also cancelled and replaced with the League War Cup.

The 1973–74 season saw Rochdale compete for their 5th consecutive season in the Football League Third Division. They finished in 24th and last position and were relegated into the Football League Fourth Division

The 1978–79 season saw Rochdale compete in their 5th consecutive season in the Football League Fourth Division.

The 1983–84 season saw Rochdale compete in their 10th consecutive season in the Football League Fourth Division.

The 1988–89 season saw Rochdale compete in their 15th consecutive season in the Football League Fourth Division.

The 1992–93 season saw Rochdale compete in their 19th consecutive season in the fourth tier of the English football league. This season saw the formation of the Premier League and therefore the former Fourth Division became the Football League Third Division.
