Human Highway is a Canadian indie rock band from Toronto, Ontario. It is composed of singer-songwriter Jim Guthrie and Nicholas Thorburn of the band Islands. [1] Their style is influenced by 1960s and 1970s AM radio pop music. [2] [3]
The band started in the early 2000s; [4] the pair had previously worked together in the band Islands, and Thorburn asked Guthrie for help with a song called "My Beach". [5] The band's name is a reference to the Neil Young song "Human Highway". [6] [4]
The duo's debut album, Moody Motorcycle , [7] was released in August, 2008 on Secret City Records in Canada and Suicide Squeeze Records in the United States. [8] Islands members Evan Gordon, Geordie Gordon and Aaron Harris were recruited to fill out the band. Reviews of the album were fairly positive. [9] [8] [1]
Up to that time Human Highway was strictly a recording project; the band began playing live support of the album, performing in New York [10] as well as four live shows in Ontario and Quebec [11] and took part in Canada Music Week in March. [12] They released a video to accompany their song "The Sound". before going on tour. [13]

Barenaked Ladies (BNL) is a Canadian rock band formed in 1988 in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, Ontario. The band developed a following in Canada, with their self-titled 1991 cassette becoming the first independent release to be certified gold in Canada. They reached mainstream success in Canada when their debut with Reprise Records, Gordon, featuring the singles "If I Had $1000000" and "Brian Wilson", was released in 1992. The band's popularity subsequently spread into the US, beginning with versions of "Brian Wilson" and "The Old Apartment" off their 1996 live album Rock Spectacle, followed by their fourth studio album Stunt, their breakout success in 1998. The album featured their highest-charting hit, "One Week", as well as "It's All Been Done" and "Call and Answer". Their fifth album, Maroon, featuring the lead single "Pinch Me", also charted highly. In the 2010s the band became well-known for creating and performing the theme song for the sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

I Mother Earth, or IME, is a Canadian rock band. The band formed in 1990 and reached its peak in popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s. After an eight-year hiatus, the band reunited in 2012. Between 1996 and 2016, I Mother Earth was among the top 150 best-selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 40 best-selling Canadian bands in Canada.
Moxy is a Canadian rock band, formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1973. They toured Canada before having a hit in late 1975 with "Can't You See I'm A Star". Moxy then toured the United States on the strength of their radio airplay. Markets in which the band was very popular included Ontario, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, and San Antonio. Joe Anthony, "The Godfather of Rock" in San Antonio on KISS-FM was largely responsible for the popularity of the band in Texas and helped bring about their first headline appearance in the U.S. in 1977, appearing with AC/DC as their opening act.
