The film is based on the 1994 autobiographical book Long Walk to Freedom by anti-apartheid revolutionary and former South African President Nelson Mandela.
Beasts of No Nation is a 2015 African war drama film written, co-produced, shot, and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. It follows a young boy who becomes a child soldier as his country experiences a horrific civil war. Shot in Ghana and starring Idris Elba, Abraham Attah, Ama K. The Dark Tower is a 2017 American neo-Western science fantasy film directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel. Caleb Reginald McLaughlin is an American actor. He gained recognition for playing Lucas Sinclair in the Netflix series Stranger Things (2016–present). McLaughlin began his career playing Young Simba in the Broadway musical The Lion King, followed by small roles in television. Concrete Cowboy is a 2020 American drama film directed by Ricky Staub from a screenplay by Staub and Dan Walser. The movie is based on the novel Ghetto Cowboy by Greg Neri, which was inspired by the real urban African-American horseriding culture of Philadelphia, and in particular, the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club. The film stars Idris Elba, Caleb McLaughlin, Jharrel Jerome, Byron Bowers, Lorraine Toussaint, Jamil Prattis and Clifford "Method Man" Smith. While the film is completely fictional, several real members of the Fletcher Street riding community play supporting characters who give voice to real issues that the community faces.

"Apple Crumble" is a song by Australian alternative rock duo Lime Cordiale and English actor and musician Idris Elba, released through Chugg Music and 7Wallace Music on 23 September 2021 as the lead single from their collaborative extended play, Cordi Elba (2022). "Apple Crumble" was recorded whilst Elba was in Australia filming Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), and was written by Oliver Leimbach, Louis Leimbach, and Elba, alongside the song's producer, Dave K.
