The IMOCA 60 class yacht Group LG 2 was designed by Finot-Conq and launched in 1995 after being made by MAG-JMV in Cherbourg in France. [1] The Canadian skipper Gerry Rouf lost his life when the boat overturned in the southern ocean during the 1996-1997 Vendee Globe. [2] [3]

The Vendée Globe is a single-handed (solo) non-stop round the world yacht race. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, and since 1992 has taken place every four years. It is named after the Département of Vendée, in France, where the race starts and ends. The Vendée Globe is considered an extreme quest of individual endurance and the ultimate test in ocean racing.

The IMOCA, is a 60ft development class monohull sailing yacht governed by the International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA). The class pinnacle event are single or two person ocean races, such as the Route du Rhum and the Vendée Globe and this has been intimately linked to design development within the class. The class is recognised by World Sailing.
Isabelle Autissier is a French sailor, navigator, writer, and broadcaster. She is celebrated for being the first woman to have completed a solo world navigation in competition. Based in La Rochelle since 1980, she is also a writer and honorary president of WWF-France.
Juan Kouyoumdjian is a naval architect. He has designed ocean racing yachts, three of which have won the Volvo Ocean Race. He studied at the University of Southampton doing an Engineering Degree in ship science degree specializing in Yacht and Small Craft. During his studies, he did an internship with Philippe Briand in La Rochelle. On graduating in June 1993 he went on to work for Philippe Briand in La Rochelle for two years to work on the America's Cup Class boats, then he started his own business in 1996.
The International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA) is the governing body of the IMOCA class. Its main task is to design the class regulations for the ocean racing yachts IMOCA 60 and organising single-handed regattas. It was established in 1991. IMOCA has been a member of World Sailing (governing body of international sailing sport) since 1999.
The 1996–1997 Vendée Globe is a non-stop solo Round the World Yacht Race for IMOCA 50 and IMOCA 60 class yachts this is the third edition of the race starting on the th November 1996 from Les Sables-d'Olonne.

The IMOCA 60 Class yacht Bonduelle 2, FRA 59 was designed by Marc Lombard and launched in the April 2004 after being built JMV based in Cherbourg, France. The boat was lost during the 2008-2009 Vendee Globe following the loss of the keel bulb the skipper Jean Le Cam was rescued by fellow competitor Vincent Riou
The IMOCA 60 Class yacht Sill-Veolia, FRA 29 was designed by Marc Lombard and launched in the 26 April 2004 after being built JMV based in Cherbourg, France.
The IMOCA 60 Class yacht SILL PLEIN FRUIT, FRA 29 was designed by Marc Lombard and launched in the 1999 after being built MAG based in France. The boat was lost in 2006 Velux 5 Ocean Race, when he was rescued by fellow competitor Mike Golding deep in the Southern Ocean. The written off hull was found nine years later washed up, 10,000 miles from where it was abandoned.
The IMOCA 60 class yacht SODEBO savourons la vie, 25 was designed by Finot-Conq and launched in October 1998, after being made by Kirié in France. The boat was lost in 2016 while on charter to Richard Tolkien when he abandoned ship. The wreckage was found near Porto Rico.

The IMOCA 60 Class yacht No Way Back, NED 160 was designed by VPLP design and Guillaume Verdier and launched in the 18 August 2015 after being built Persico in Italy. The boat had structural issues during the 2022 Route de Rhum when the ballast tanks demounted themselves. This while retiring from the race the previous day and heading back towards Portugal led to an onboard fire and the boat was lost,

The IMOCA 60 Class yacht Credit Agricole IV was designed and built by Marc Lombard. The boat's original skipper formed a company "Jeantot Marine" which built the boat. It was launched in January 1989. The boat was lost while unofficial competing in the 1996-1997 Vendee Globe with Italian skipper Raphael Dinelli dramatically rescued by fellow competitor Pete Goss.
