A corvette is a small warship. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper warship. The warship class above the corvette is that of the frigate, while the class below was historically that of the sloop-of-war. The modern types of ship below a corvette are coastal patrol craft, missile boat and fast attack craft. In modern terms, a corvette is typically between 500 tons and 2,000 tons, although recent designs may approach 3,000 tons, which might instead be considered a small frigate.
USS Simpson (FFG-56) was an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate of the United States Navy, named for Rear Admiral Rodger W. Simpson.
The Hamina-class missile boat is a class of fast attack craft of the Finnish Navy. They are classified as "missile fast attack craft" or ohjusvene, literally "missile boat" in Finnish. The Hamina FACs are based at Upinniemi, and form the 7th Surface Warfare Squadron, part of the Finnish Coastal Fleet, together with the minelayers MLC Hämeenmaa, Porkkala and Pyhäranta.

A fast attack craft (FAC) is a small, fast, agile and offensive warship armed with anti-ship missiles, gun or torpedoes. FACs are usually operated in close proximity to land as they lack both the seakeeping and all-round defensive capabilities to survive in blue water. The size of the vessel also limits the fuel, stores and water supplies. In size they are usually between 50–800 tonnes and can reach speeds of 25–50 knots.
The Type 143A Gepard class was a class of missile bearing fast attack craft and the last one in service with the German Navy before the remaining four operational ships were decommissioned on 16 November 2016. The Ghana Navy operates two such ships
The Type 142 Zobel class was a German class of torpedo bearing fast attack craft. They were in service with the Bundesmarine during the Cold War to protect the Baltic sea coast. The class was designed by Lürssen.
The La Combattante IIa fast attack craft is a class of fast attack craft originally built for the German Navy as Type 148 Tiger-class fast attack craft. They were later transferred to the Hellenic Navy and the class was renamed Combattante IIa, as with similar French made ships. All the ships were under mid-life updates in 1980s. Two vessels in the class, P-74 and P-75, were fitted with RGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles and a new ESM was fitted after transfer.
Joshan, hull number P224 is a Sina-class fast attack craft. It was named for a vessel that was sunk by missiles fired from the US warships USS Wainwright and USS Simpson during Operation Praying Mantis in the Persian Gulf on 18 April 1988.
The Type 22 missile boat is a ship class in the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy. The first boat was launched in April 2004 by the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard at Shanghai. The boats incorporate stealth features and are based on Australian-designed wave-piercing catamaran hulls that are more stable than other fast missile craft in high sea conditions. Approximately 83 of these missile boats are currently in service with three flotillas having been produced over a span of seven years.
The Iranian missile boat Paykan is an Iranian-made Sina-class fast attack craft. The Sina class is nearly identical to the Kaman class and Paykan and Joshan are both often referred to as members of the Kaman class.
Operation Morvarid was an operation launched by the Iranian Navy and Air Force against the Iraqi Air Defence sites on 28 November 1980 in response to Iraq positioning radar and monitoring equipment on the Al-Bakr and Khor-al-Amaya oil rigs to counter Iranian air operations. The operation resulted in a victory for Iran, which managed to destroy both oil rigs as well as much of the Iraqi Navy and inflicted significant damage to Iraqi ports and airfields.
The Yemeni Navy is the maritime component of the armed forces of Yemen. Yemen's navy was created in 1990 when North and South Yemen united.
The Intrépida class is a class of fast attack craft that was built by Lürssen for the Argentine Navy in the early 1970s. The ships are based on Lürssen's TNC 45 design.
The Jerung-class gunboat is a class of gunboats in service with the Royal Malaysian Navy. This class is based on the same design as the Intrépida-class fast attack craft in service with Argentine Navy, the Lurssen FPB/TNC-45 fast attack craft and are built by Hong-Leong Lurssen Shipyards. The Jerong class is equipped only with 57 mm and 40 mm guns for close-in combat and fire support, unlike other fast attack crafts in Malaysian service which are armed with anti-ship missiles. Peacetime duties include patrol of the exclusive economic zone, interception of illegal immigrants and anti-piracy operations. They are too small and under-armed for use in conventional warfare or in open waters.
