The Senior Soccer Bowl Classic was founded in 1972 by the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America (ISAA) to be a forum where top college soccer players could compete in an all-star game and where professional soccer scouts could come to see America's best players.
In its 12th year, Senior Soccer Bowl '83 was hosted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.[1] The coach for the East All Stars was Dieter Ficken from Columbia University, and the coach for the West All Stars was Bill Coupe from the University of California Berkeley.[2] In that same year, Dieter was also named NCAA Men's Coach of the Year.[3]
In 1983, the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America (ISSA) began recognizing the best U.S. college soccer goalkeeper and annually awarding the ISAA Goalkeeper of the Year. Between 1984 and 1995, it began recognizing outstanding men's NCAA soccer players and awarding the ISAA Player of the Year.
The Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America (ISAA) was a service organization of institutions that sponsored intercollegiate soccer. It supported, served and promoted institutions, coaches and players from its member institutions through service and award programs. It was founded on the East Coast in 1926 and maintained an organizational membership in the NCAA, the NAIA and the USSF. In 1996, the ISAA entered into a partnership with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), who now manages former ISAA programs.[4] The ISAA publication, College Soccer Almanac, continues to be published by the NSCAA as a benefit to College Services members.

The East–West Shrine Bowl is a postseason college football all-star game that has been played annually since 1925; through January 2019, it was known as the East–West Shrine Game. Arthur Gustavo Malzahn III is an American football coach. He is currently the head coach at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He was the head football coach at Auburn University from 2013 to 2020. He helped lead the 2010 Auburn Tigers to a national championship. As head coach at Auburn, he led the team to a SEC Championship win and an appearance in the 2014 national championship. Malzahn has coached Heisman winner Cam Newton and two Heisman finalists: Nick Marshall and Tre Mason, including coaching 14 All-Americans. During Malzahn's tenure at Auburn, he was the second-longest tenured head coach at one school in the SEC, behind Nick Saban. Out of active head coaches, Malzahn also holds the best record against Coach Saban.
Perry Lee Moss was an American football player, coach, and executive. Moss played tailback at the University of Tulsa and quarterback at Illinois during the 1940s. As a Tulsa tailback, he was on the Orange Bowl team that beat Georgia Tech, 26–12, in the 1945 Orange Bowl and later as an Illinois T-quarterback, he directed a Rose Bowl team which routed UCLA, 45–14, in 1947. Moss served two years in the United States Air Force between his playing time at Tulsa and Illinois. At Illinois, he was named to All-Big Ten Conference and All-American teams. He was drafted in 1948 by the Green Bay Packers in the 13th round and played at the professional level for one year before returning to Illinois as an assistant. He started one game at quarterback for the Packers.

The West Virginia Mountaineers men's soccer team is the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I soccer team of West Virginia University (WVU). Beginning with the 2012 season, the team was an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference because WVU is the only school in its primary conference, the Big 12 Conference, that has a varsity men's soccer team. For the 2022 season, West Virginia joined in-state rival Marshall in the Sun Belt Conference, and the Mountain State Derby will become an annual conference game. WVU had been scheduled to leave the MAC for Conference USA but this plan was changed when Marshall changed conferences from CUSA to the SBC.
The Bowling Green Falcons men's soccer team is the National Collegiate Athletic Association NCAA Division I intercollegiate college soccer team of Bowling Green State University located in Bowling Green, Ohio. The 1950 Soccer Bowl was the first edition of the Soccer Bowl, a post-season college soccer championship game between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the San Francisco Dons held on January 1, 1950, at the Sportsman's Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The match ended in a 2–2 draw with Penn State and San Francisco sharing the title. The game was used to determine the champion of the 1949 ISFA season, which predated the NCAA as the premier organizing body of collegiate soccer, and represented the concluding game of the season for both teams.
