Wilhelm Dilthey was a German historian, psychologist, sociologist, and hermeneutic philosopher, who held G. W. F. Hegel's Chair in Philosophy at the University of Berlin. As a polymathic philosopher, working in a modern research university, Dilthey's research interests revolved around questions of scientific methodology, historical evidence and history's status as a science. He could be considered an empiricist, in contrast to the idealism prevalent in Germany at the time, but his account of what constitutes the empirical and experiential differs from British empiricism and positivism in its central epistemological and ontological assumptions, which are drawn from German literary and philosophical traditions.

The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Founded in 1946, the festival screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, avant-garde, and retrospective programs. The Piazza Grande section is held in an open-air venue that seats 8,000 spectators.

Peter Zeitlinger A.S.C. is a Czechoslovakian-born Austrian cinematographer, who has worked with the director Werner Herzog since 1995. Their film Encounters at the End of the World was nominated for the Academy Award 2009. Peter Zeitlinger studied from 1980 – 1987 at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. He was influenced by Michael Snow and Peter Kubelka followed by Vittorio Storaro, Sven Nykvist and Vilmos Zsigmond. Zeitlinger's films have received considerable critical acclaim and achieved popularity on the art house circuit. He is represented by the Gersh Agency and is a member of the German Film Academy. It is a prayer for a blessed death, beginning "Herzlich tut mich verlangen nach einem sel'gen End". Its hymn tune, Zahn No. 5385a, was later also used for Paul Gerhardt's "Befiehl du deine Wege" and "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden".
