Ian MacDonald, colloquially known as "Tex", is a former public school teacher, who was the 43rd Mayor of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of King George III of the United Kingdom, Charlottetown was originally an unincorporated town that incorporated as a city in 1855.

Prince Edward Island is a province of Canada and one of the three Maritime Provinces. It is the smallest province of Canada in both land area and population, but it is the most densely populated. Part of the traditional lands of the Mi'kmaq, it became a British colony in the 1700s and was federated into Canada as a province in 1873. Its capital is Charlottetown. According to Statistics Canada, the province of PEI has 155,318 residents.

MacDonald served as a councilor on Charlottetown City Council during the late 1980s and early 1990s, culminating in the mayorship from 1992 to 1997.

The Charlottetown City Council is the governing body for the city of Charlottetown, the county seat of Queen's County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The most recent civic election took place in November, 2014. City council meets at Charlottetown City Hall.

MacDonald was a prominent member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island prior to publicly switching to the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party to run for that party's leadership which became vacant with the resignation of Premier Catherine Callbeck in 1996. MacDonald ran unsuccessfully for the Liberal leadership against Daniel Mullen, Keith Milligan, and Wayne Cheverie.

MacDonald returned to teaching at Colonel Gray High School before retiring in the early 2000s. Following the electoral victory of Robert Ghiz in the 2007 general election, MacDonald was appointed Executive Assistant to the Premier. [1]

Robert Watson Joseph Ghiz is a Canadian politician who served as the 31st premier of Prince Edward Island from 2007 to 2015. He is the son of the 27th premier, Joe Ghiz. On November 13, 2014 Ghiz announced he would be resigning as Premier in early 2015 as soon as the Liberal Party elected a new leader.

2015 Prince Edward Island general election

The 2015 Prince Edward Island general election was held May 4, 2015, to elect members of the 65th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Under amendments passed by the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in 2008, Prince Edward Island elections are usually held on the first Monday of October in the fourth calendar year, unless it is dissolved earlier by the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island due to a motion of no confidence. The current government had hinted that an election would be held "before Mother's Day" 2015, and such a dissolution would avoid any conflicts with the next federal election, expected to be held in October 2015.

The Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island, on February 21, 2015, chose a new leader to replace outgoing leader, Robert Ghiz. On November 13, 2014, Ghiz announced his pending resignation. The Liberal Party had been the Government of Prince Edward Island with a majority in the Legislative Assembly since 12 June 2007, having won the 2007 and 2011 provincial elections. With the Liberals forming the PEI government, the newly-selected leader consequently became Premier of Prince Edward Island.

H. Wade MacLauchlan, is a Canadian academic and politician. He served as the 32nd premier of Prince Edward Island from 2015 to 2019. His government was defeated in the April 23, 2019 general election after one term in power. MacLauchlan resigned as Liberal party leader on May 8, 2019 upon the selection of Robert Mitchell as interim leader.

2019 Prince Edward Island general election

The 2019 Prince Edward Island general election was held to elect the members of the 66th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada. The vote in 26 of the 27 districts was held on 23 April 2019, while the vote for the member from Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park was deferred to 15 July due to the death of the Green Party's candidate. However, Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park still voted in a referendum on electoral reform. Natalie Jameson won the deferred election in the riding.
