Ibrahim Sane

Ibrahim Ahmed Sane (born 23 June 1974 in Hola Tana, River County) is a Kenyan politician and a member of the 11th parliament elected from Garsen Constituency on the tick of URP in 2013. He is an activist against cultural practices including early girl child marriage. [1]

Education and career

Ibrahim Sane attended Hara Primary School from 1983 to 1990 before proceeding to Hola Secondary School where he studied from 1991 to 1994 when he sat for KCSE exams. He studied for a diploma in conflict management at Vision Empowerment Training Institute from 2008 to 2010.

He contested and won Garsen Constituency seat in the Kenya National Assembly on the ticket of URP in 2013. In the parliament, he was a member of Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations. he was projected a formidable candidate to challenge incumbent governor Hussein Dado for the seat in 2017 but failed to run. They speak the Pokomo language, which is similar to Swahili.

In August 2012, a series of ethnic clashes between the Orma and Pokomo peoples of Kenya's Tana River District resulted in the deaths of at least fifty-two people. The violence was the worst of its kind in Kenya since the country's 2007–08 crisis, which left 118 people dead and more than 13,500 displaced – over 50% of the 13,500 were children, women and the elderly.

Masinga Hydroelectric Power Station, also Masinga Dam, is an embankment dam on the Tana River, the longest river in Kenya and straddles the border of Embu and Machakos Counties in Eastern Province and is located about 106 km. (66 mi.), by road, northeast of Nairobi, Kenya's capital and largest city. Construction of the dam began in 1978, and was completed in 1981. It is owned by Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA). The dam is used for power production and is part of the Seven Forks Scheme.

Wardey is a Somali clan who currently associated with the Dir clan family specifically the Madahweyne sub-clan found in southern Somalia and eastern Kenya, mostly along the Tana River. The Wardey are a pastoralist community. Mostly they live in Tana River County alongside Orma communities. They speak the Somali language and practice Islam.

In 2017 she won the seat through Party for development and reform, under the reign of the fourth president of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
