Ichtiar Baru van Hoeve is an Indonesian publisher of encyclopedia and reference books.

Originally named Penerbit Van Hoeve Bandung, it was already operating in the 1930s. It closed on 1957 when Indonesia nationalized many foreign companies, but was re-established in ca. 1974 using the name PT Ichtiar Baru Van Hoeve and was headquartered in Jakarta. One of its first publications in this new period was Ensiklopedi Indonesia (1980) with Hassan Shadily as editor-in-chief. [1] Ensiklopedi Indonesia was expanded from earlier book with similar name, Ensiklopedia Indonesia, by Todung Sutan Gunung Mulia and published by the original Van Hoeve in 1955.

<i>Ensiklopedi Umum dalam Bahasa Indonesia</i>

Ensiklopedi umum dalam bahasa Indonesia is a single volume Indonesian-language general encyclopedia published in 1954 by Bulan Bintang. It was written solely by Adi Negoro. It is claimed to be the second Indonesian encyclopedia that was the work of a single person.

"Padamoe Djoea" is a 28-line poem by Amir Hamzah which was included in his 1937 collection Nyanyi Sunyi. Hamzah's best-praised work, readings have generally focused on religious themes – mainly from an Islamic perspective, although Christian influences have been suggested.

Herman Strategier

Herman Strategier (1912–1988) was a composer, organist, and conductor from The Netherlands. Strategier studied at the Roman Catholic School of Church Music in Utrecht. He served as conductor of Leiden's Dutch Madrigal Choir and also composed a number of larger concert works, among them are Don Ramiro (1943) for chorus and orchestra, Rembrandt Cantata (1956), and Shadow out of Time (1973) for ad libitum chorus, flute, percussion, organ, harp, and tape.

Fatwa, Sahabah, and Iftaa are the responses in the form of answers, opinions or laws that are delivered and or given by Sahabah. In addition to explaining the meaning of a verse in the Al Quran and Hadith, fatwa deal with issues resulting from conditions different from those in the time of Muhammad. Fatwa are not based on reason alone, but primarily on the Al-Quran and Hadith. Therefore, Ijma or scholars of Islamic law have agreed that the opinions of the Sahabah, based on their arguments, can be used to resolve problems of Islamic law. Among Sahabah, those friends who gave fatwas include Ali ibn Abi Talib, Abdullah ibn Umar, Abdullah ibn Abbas, and others.

Soeman Hs Indonesian author

Soeman Hasibuan better known by his pen name Soeman Hs, was an Indonesian author recognized for pioneering detective fiction and short story writing in the country's literature. Born in Bengkalis, Riau, Dutch East Indies, to a family of farmers, Soeman studied to become a teacher and, under the author Mohammad Kasim, a writer. He began working as a Malay-language teacher after completing normal school in 1923, first in Siak Sri Indrapura, Aceh, then in Pasir Pengaraian, Rokan Hulu, Riau. Around this time he began writing, publishing his first novel, Kasih Tak Terlarai, in 1929. In twelve years he published five novels, one short story collection, and thirty-five short stories and poems.

The Dutch-Indonesian foundation Stichting Opbouw-Pembangoenan was established on 24 March 1947 by the Dutch weekly Vrij Nederland. The foundation had a mixed Dutch-Indonesian board and ran bookstores and a publishing house.

<i>Al-Munir</i>

Al-Munir was an Islamic magazine, written in Arabic-Malay, published in Padang from 1911 until 1915. Inaugurated by the initiative of Abdullah Ahmad in early April 1911, Al-Munir was listed as the first Islamic mass media in Indonesia. The magazine was often associated with Al-Imam magazine published under the direction of Sheikh Tahir Jalaluddin in Singapore during 1906-1909. In addition to Abdullah Ahmad, several religious figures such as Abdul Karim Amrullah, Muhammad Thaib Umar and Sutan Muhammad Salim were recorded in the ranks of the editorial board.

Buda script

Buda Script or (Aksara Buda) or Gunung Script is an archaic script. Based on its shape, the Buda Script still has a close relationship with the Kawi script. This script was previously used on the island of Java and Bali. This type of script is called the Buda script because it is considered to have originated from the pre-Islamic era which is called the Buddhist Age. The word Buda is based on the Buddha word. Manuscripts containing writing using the Buda script are commonly found in mountainous areas. Because of that, this type of script is also called the "Mountain script".

Jong Batak Bond Intellectual organisation in the Dutch East Indies

Jong Batak Bond, sometimes simply called Jong Batak, was a short-lived but influential Batak intellectual organization founded in Batavia, Dutch East Indies in December 1925. Like Budi Utomo, Jong Java and other such organizations, its members consisted of native Indonesian students in Dutch-language schools interested in advancing their ethnic group and Indonesian nationalism at the same time. Notable members of the group include Amir Sjarifuddin Harahap, Todung Sutan Gunung Mulia Harahap, Sanusi Pane, Saleh Said Harahap and Arifin Harahap.

Lintong Mulia Sitorus, in pre-1948 spelling Lintong Moelia Sitoroes, was an Indonesian intellectual, writer, translator, lawyer, and Socialist Party of Indonesia politician. He was a key follower of the independent-minded Indonesian nationalist Sutan Sjahrir in the 1940s and 1950s.
