Daniel Diongoli, professionally known as Idyl, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and recording artist. He is the winner of Season 2 of The Voice Nigeria [1] and is signed to Universal Music, Africa. [2] He is from Bayelsa state in southern Nigeria. [3]

Early career

Idyl auditioned unsuccessfully for four seasons of Project Fame West Africa between 2012 (season five) and 2015 (season nine). He also had unsuccessful auditions on Nigerian Idol (Seasons two through five) and X-Factor Nigeria. [4] In 2016, he released of the song ‘Tari’, for which he won the Next Rated Artiste Award at the Bayelsa Media Awards. [5] In the same year, he also won an award from Roger Hammond Memorial Trust Fund in London; which came with a music scholarship at the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) School of Music, where he learned to play the piano, and studied music theory and vocal training. [5]

In 2017, Idyl auditioned for season two of The Voice Nigeria and was selected by singer Timi Dakolo into his team for the competition. In September 2017, after a 3-month long competition, he was announced as the winner of the reality TV series, ahead of 48 other contestants who qualified for the finals. [6] This was the first ever win for Team Timi Dakolo on the show. [7]

As a result of his win, Idyl received a recording contract with Universal Music Africa, a sports utility vehicle and an all-expense-paid trip to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. [8]

2017–present

After his win at The Voice Nigeria, Idyl performed at the GAC showcase in Guangzhou, China [9] and he released his debut single on the Universal Music imprint, Better Love. [10] In July 2018, he released Owami, featuring South African singer Lungi Naidoo and produced by Ckay, which enjoyed critical success. [11] Idly featured another South African artiste, Rowlene Bosman in March 2019 on the song, Satisfy Me, which was described as an edgier sound compared to his earlier releases. Satisfy Me [5] [12] received favourable responses from audiences and months later, he released an ADM remix. In August 2019, he released another single, Iyoro produced by Sovida, which was recorded in his local Ijaw language. The song title translates to ‘Beautiful woman’ in English. [13]

Idols West Africa is the West African version of the Idol series franchise. Based in Nigeria, it is a talent contest to find a recording artiste, and aired on M-Net in 2007. Like the Pan-Arab entry to the series, the show incorporated countries throughout the West African region.

She first gained recognition after being featured on the remake of P-Square’s "Omoge Mi". Waje was also featured on the duo's 2008 hit track "Do Me". She contributed vocals to Banky W's "Thief My Kele" and M.I's "One Naira". In 2016, Waje was one of the four judges in the inaugural season of The Voice Nigeria. In 2018, on its final season of Africa Magic telenovela, Battleground, Waje recurred.

The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. The first and second editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, better known by his stage name Patoranking, is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Ijegun-Egba Satellite Town, Patoranking hails from Onicha, Ebonyi State. He started his music career doing underground collaborations, with artists such as XProject, Konga, Slam and Reggie Rockstone. He signed a record deal with K-Solo's Igberaga Records in 2010, releasing "Up in D Club" under the outfit. Patoranking became a protégé of Dem Mama Records after collaborating with Timaya on his song "Alubarika". In February 2014, he signed a record deal with Foston Musik and released "Girlie O", a single that put him in the limelight. Yemi Eberechi Alade, is a Nigerian Afropop singer, songwriter, actress and activist. She competed as one of the seventeen composing members of Team Michi & Smudo and later emerged as the winner after garnering 38% of the public vote. The Headies 2015 was the 10th edition of The Headies. It was held on January 1, 2016, at the Landmark Events Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed "Flip the Script", the event was hosted by Bovi and Kaffy. It was previously scheduled to hold on December 30, 2015, but the organizers of the event postponed it to January 1, 2016 without citing any reason. Olamide won a total of four awards, while Timi Dakolo won three. Wizkid was nominated seven times across the twenty-one award categories. 2face Idibia was honored with the Hall of Fame award, while Don Jazzy received the Special Recognition award. Reekado Banks won the Next Rated award. His win was criticized by music critics, who challenged the "fairness of the award process".

The Headies Award for Song of the Year is an award presented at The Headies, a ceremony that was established in 2006 and originally called the Hip Hop World Awards. It was first awarded to "Busy Body" in 2006.

<i>The Voice Nigeria</i> Reality television singing competition

The Voice Nigeria is the Nigerian franchise of the TV series The Voice. It is a singing competition that features music enthusiasts and professional performers. Since its first edition in 2016 in Nigeria, the show has become the biggest rival to the Nigerian Idol. It has also produced many talents and celebrated artistes in the country and Africa at large.

Chris Alvin Sunday professionally known as Krizbeatz or KrizBeatz the drummer Boy, is a Nigerian record producer best known for producing Tekno his first single "Pana". Ranked 3rd on Pulse Nigeria's 2016 list of "Top 5 Best Nigerian Music Producers", KrizBeatz has worked majorly with Yemi Alade including several artistes like Oyibo Rebel, Skales, Lil Kesh and Koker while also releasing his own single titled "Erima" and the hit single "911" featuring Yemi Alade and Harmonize which further pushed his career to limelight. The song "911" currently has over 13 million views on YouTube.

Prior to August 2022, he went by the stage name Nonso Bassey.

The Voice Nigeria Season 2 is the second season of the Nigerian version of the TV series The Voice. It was broadcast on Africa Magic from 18 June 2017 and was sponsored by Airtel and Coca-Cola. The winner earned a recording contract with Universal Music Group, an SUV car worth N7 million and a trip to Abu Dhabi.

He rose to continental prominence for his performance on Nigerian Idol Season 6 in 2021, eventually going on to win the competition over his fellow Top 2 contestant, Francis Atela. He is also the Youth Ambassador to the Bayelsa State Government.
