Ilan Sinelnikov is an Israeli and American activist, currently the president of and co-founder of Students Supporting Israel (SSI). [1] [2]
Sinelnikov was raised in Rehovot, Israel, and attended the University of Minnesota. [3] [2] While a student, he co-founded SSI as a student organization along with Valeria Chazin and Naor Bitton in 2012. [4]
In 2014, Sinelnikov was allegedly removed from his position in the University of Minnesota graduate student government for his activism. [5]
SSI has expanded to nearly 200 college campuses in the United States, along with five in Canada and one in Argentina. [4] As of February 2022, it had nearly 1,000 members and nearly 400 alumni. [4]
After the Duke University Duke Student Government (DSG) denied SSI's recognition as a student organization over allegations it singled out a student on social media, Sinelnikov urged the university to reinstate the club's recognition. [6] Duke subsequently offered the organization other forms of financial support. [6]
In 2024, Sinelnikov was punched in the head during a protest at the University of California, Berkeley, over an Israeli flag. [7]
Sinelnikov is a contributed to The Times of Israel and PragerU. [8] [9]
