Ilya Zhakanov [1] (born in Aktogay village, Sarysu District of Jambyl Region of the Kazakh SSR on May 6, 1936 [2] ) was a Soviet and Kazakhstani writer, composer, and art critic. They were an Honored Worker of Culture of the Kazakh SSR (1990), Distinguished Cultural Contributor of Kyrgyzstan (1994), [3] Distinguished Cultural Contributor of Kazakhstan (1998), and Hero of Labour of Kazakhstan (2022). [4]
After graduating from the Philology Department of Kazakh State University named after Kirov (now Al-Farabi Kazakh National University) in 1959, [5] Ilya Zhakanov led the Literature & Culture Section in Kazakhstan Pioneri (now Ulan) newspaper. [6] Between 1963 and 1984 he worked as a script editor at the Kazakh SSR Council of Ministers State Committee for Television and Radio, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the Music Office of Kazakhstani Radio. [7]
In 2011 he passed entrance tests at Atyrau State University and later successfully graduated with a diploma in Arts and Design. He mastered the profession of a painter at the age of 78. [8]
His first books Qaita Oralğan An (The Returned song) (1968), Hoş Bol Väls (Goodbye, waltz) (1969) were instant hits. His novel about Ykylas, a great Kazakh kobyz player and kui performer, was first published in Kyrgyz as Kertologoo (1989), and then in Kazakh as Ykylas (1990). [9] Ilya Zhakanov published collections of documentary stories of Kazakh cultural professionals Bırınşı Konsert (The first concert) (1971), Ekı Jiren (Two Red Horse) (1976), Mahabbat Välsı (Waltz of love) (1983), Aqqular qonğan aidyp köl (The lake where the swans landed) (1988) and Qarabura (1997). He authored 200 songs, [11] including Äselım Änım (Song Aselim), Edıl Men Jaiyq (Volga and Ural) [12] etc. Republic of Kyrgyzstan awarded Zhakanov with Daneker International Award and Order for the song cycle inspired by Chingiz Aitmatov's novels Jamilia, [2] Farewell, Gulsary and My poplar in a red kerchief. [13]
Ilya Zhakanov translated Synğan Qylyş (The Broken Sword) (1981) by Kasymbekov from Kyrgyz to Kazakh. He has written books about such Kazakh composers as Muqan Tulebaev, Latif Khamidi, Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov, Kapan Musin and Bakhytzhan Baykadamov. His documentary movies Şoqan Jäne Muzyka (Chokan and music), Jambyl Jäne Muzyka (Jambul and music) and Säken Jäne Muzyka (Saken and music) are quite well-known. Mr. Zhakanov received Jambyl International Award (1997). [14]
With his spouse, Tiyshkul Altayeva, they have 4 children – Bauyrjan, Daniar, Karlygaş and Läilä Jakanov. [15]
Almaty Region is a region in Kazakhstan, located in the southeastern part of the country. Its capital, from 1997 to 2022 was the city of Taldyqorğan. But with the creation of the new Jetysu Region in 2022, Taldyqorğan was chosen to be its capital and the capital of Almaty region was moved to the city of Kunayev.

This region and Atyrau Region are Kazakhstan's two smallest regions; both are about 117,300 square kilometers in area. Turkistan Region borders the neighboring country of Uzbekistan, as well as three other Kazakhstan regions: Karaganda Region, Kyzylorda Region, and Jambyl Region. The Syr Darya passes through the region, on its way to the Aral Sea. An oil pipeline runs from Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan to Omsk, Russia through South Kazakhstan. Oil, lead and zinc are refined in Shymkent.
Jambyl or Zhambyl Region, formerly known as Dzhambul Region until 1991, is a region of Kazakhstan. Its capital is Taraz. The population of the region is 1,209,665; the city is 335,100. The region borders Kyrgyzstan, and is very near to Uzbekistan. Jambyl also borders three other provinces: Karaganda Region, Turkistan Region and Almaty Region. The total area is 144,200 square kilometres (55,700 sq mi). The province borders Lake Balkhash to its northeast. The province was named after the Kazakh akyn Jambyl Jabayev.
West Kazakhstan Region is a region of Kazakhstan. The region has a population of 683,327 as of 2022. Its administrative centre is Oral, a city of about 200,000 inhabitants.
Mangystau is a region of Kazakhstan. Its capital is Aqtau, which has a population of 183,350 (2017); the entire Mangystau Province has a population of 745,909 (2022).

Askar Myrzakhmetov is a Kazakh politician who held the positions of Counsellor of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and First Vice Minister of Agriculture between 1997 and 2006. He was ambassador to Uzbekistan in 2006 and 2007.

The Military Band Service of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan (MBS-AFK) is a musical department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, which is responsible for the organization of military bands in the armed forces. It oversees the development of all the bands of the Kazakh Armed Forces, as well as provides training and guidance to these bands in their activities. The purpose of military bands in the Kazakh Armed Forces is to build patriotism in the military and improve the morale of the troops through the playing of cultural and national songs. The military band service is based on the HQ Band of the Central Asian Military District, which served the area of the Kazakh SSR in the Soviet era. The Central Band of the Ministry of Defense is the most senior of these bands, with its commander, Major Timur Dzhartibayev, being the Director of Music of the band service. Most of the leadership in the service also work in the State Wind Orchestra of Republic of Kazakhstan.
