Greetsiel is a small port on the bight of Leybucht in western East Frisia, Germany, that was first documented in letters from the year 1388. Since 1972, Greetsiel has been part of the municipality of Krummhörn, which has its administrative seat in Pewsum. The nearest railway station is at Emden, about 15–20 kilometres (9.3–12.4 mi) away, and the two towns are linked by a bus service.

The Münchhausen Prize was instituted in 1997, the 200th anniversary of the death of the historical Baron von Münchhausen. It is awarded in May each year in Bodenwerder, the Baron's hometown, for special talent in the art of speaking or presentation, either in literature or the visual arts, fantasy and satire, in the sense of the Baron. The prize money is €2,556.
The KAIROS Prize has been awarded to European artists and scholars from the fields of visual and performing arts, music, architecture, design, film, photography, literature and journalism since 2007 by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg. It is endowed with a sum of 75,000 Euro.
Anna Blume and Bernhard Johannes Blume were German art photographers. They created sequences of large black-and-white photos of staged scenes in which they appeared themselves, with objects taking on a "life" of their own. Their works have been shown internationally in exhibitions and museums, including New York's MoMA. They are regarded as "among the pioneers of staged photography".
The Johann-Peter-Hebel-Preis was endowed in 1936 in honour of the writer and dialectal poet Johann Peter Hebel. The prize is since 1974 awarded every two years to writers, translators, essayists, media representatives or scientists from the German district Baden-Württemberg, who write in the Alemannic dialect or are connected with Hebel. The ceremony of the €10,000 prize takes place in Hausen im Wiesental, which is also home to the "Hebelfest" every 10 May. The municipality of Hausen also award every year the Johann-Peter-Hebel-Gedenkplakette to personalities from the Ober Rhein region.
Clemens-Brentano-Preis of the city of Heidelberg is a literary prize of Germany. It was established in 1993, and named after the German poet Clemens Brentano (1778–1842). The prize money is €10,000.
Dedalus-Preis für Neue Literatur is a German literary prize. The award was named after the main character in the novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. It was awarded between 1996 and 2004.
Ilse Haider is an Austrian artist. She focuses on photography and her photographic works use three dimensional surfaces. She has received a number of awards for her work and her work has appeared in exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States.

Ulrike Rosenbach is a video artist from Germany. Rose Bach works with videotapes, installations and performances. She was one of the first artists from Germany to use video for experiments with electronic images. Her videotapes critique the traditional representation of women and help formulate the identity of women from a feminist perspective.
The Aby Warburg Prize is a science prize of the city of Hamburg. It was established in 1979. Since 1980, it is donated by the senate of the city for excellence in the humanities and social sciences. It is named after the Hamburg-born art historian Aby Warburg. The prize is worth 25,000 Euros and awarded every four years. Young scientists will receive a scholarship of 10,000 euros.
The German Africa Prize or German Africa Award has been awarded annually since 1993 by the German Africa Foundation to promote peace, democracy, social market economy and human rights. In addition to these primary goals, the German Africa Prize is intended to contribute to the understanding in Germany of Africa and increase awareness of Africa.
The Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau is a music prize given by Hanau, Hesse, Germany and the Hindemith Foundation in Blonay (Switzerland), since 2000. Until 2004 the prize was called Paul Hindemith Prize for Art and Humanity of the City of Hanau in honour and remembrance of the composer Paul Hindemith. The prize consists of a certificate, a medal of honor in silver and €10,000. It is awarded biennially in recognition of outstanding musical achievement.
The Gottfried Brockmann Prize is a juried art prize, awarded every two years since 1985 by the city of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The Würth Prize of Jeunesses Musicales Germany has been awarded since 1991 to artists, ensembles or projects who implement Jeunesses Musicales Germany's (JMD) values and objectives in an exemplary manner. Together with the Würth Foundation, the JMD has been honoring individual personalities, ensembles and projects every year. The prize is presented in Künzelsau and endowed with 25,000 euros. The jury is made up of representatives from the Würth Foundation and Jeunesses Musicales Germany and is advised by the Deutscher Musikrat. The JMD is the German section of the Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI). It was founded during the Second World War to encourage encounters between young musicians.
Anna Jermolaewa is a Russia-born conceptual artist based in Vienna, Austria since 1989. Her artistic practice incorporates a wide range of media: video, installation, painting, performance, photography, and sculpture. In 1999, her video work Chicken Triptych was selected by Harald Szeemann to be presented in the Arsenal location of the 48th Venice Biennale. On 16 January 2023, it was announced that Jermolaewa will represent Austria in the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, exhibiting in the Austrian pavilion in the Giardini della Biennale.
Since 2008 the city of Würzburg awards the Peter C. Ruppert Prize for Concrete Art in Europe every three years.
