Background

In Secret was bred by Longwood Thoroughbred Farm and Segenhoe Stud and consigned for sale at the 2021 Magic Millions sale. She was the only horse purchased at these sales by Godolphin for $900,000. In Secret's broodmare, Eloping, won over $1 million dollars in her racing career, culminating with Group 3 victories in the Keith Mackay Handicap and Champagne Stakes. [2]

Racing career

In Secret had her first race start at Scone Racecourse on the 14 May 2022 in the Woodlands Stakes. She won the race comfortably when ridden by Hugh Bowman, who stated after the race, "She has got a bit of a class edge on this lot, and she is certainly up to better things." [3]

After running second at her next start in the Silver Slipper Stakes, In Secret next contested The Run To The Rose which she won by 1.5 lengths. In Secret then ran second in the Golden Rose Stakes before winning the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington Racecourse when ridden by James McDonald. [4]

Sophisticat was a Kentucky-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. A daughter of Storm Cat out of the champion filly Serena's Song she was sold for $3.7 million as a yearling and raced in Europe for the Coolmore Stud organization. Racing as a two-year-old, she won only one minor race but was placed in the Queen Mary Stakes, Silver Flash Stakes, Lowther Stakes, Moyglare Stud Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes. In the following year she won the Prix de la Grotte and finished second in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches before recording her biggest success in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. She was retired at the end of the year and had some success as a broodmare.

Excellent Art was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. As a two-year-old he was trained in England and showed good form, winning the National Stakes and the Mill Reef Stakes and being placed in both the Prix Morny and the Railway Stakes. In the following year he was moved in Ireland and was even better: he won the St James's Palace Stakes, finished second in the Sussex Stakes, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Breeders' Cup Turf and was rated one of the best three-year-old colts in the world. He was then retired to stud and had some success as a sire of winners before being exported to India in 2013.

Airwave is a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. Competing almost exclusively in sprints she won six of her twenty-two starts in a racing career which lasted from July 2002 until June 2005. She was one of the fastest juveniles of her generation in 2002 when she won the Firth of Clyde Stakes and then recorded an upset victory over Russian Rhythm in the Cheveley Park Stakes. In the following year she won the Temple Stakes and was placed in the Golden Jubilee Stakes, July Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup. She was not as good as a four-year-old, but did win the Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes and finished second in the Diadem Stakes. She was sold to Irish interests and ran three times as a five-year-old, winning the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes before being retired to begin a second career as a broodmare.

Listen is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She showed her best form as a two-year-old in 2007 she won the Listed Saoire Stakes on her debut, finished second in both the Debutante Stakes and the Moyglare Stud Stakes and then recorded her biggest success in the Group One Fillies' Mile. Her subsequent racing career was compromised by injury and she made little impact in two races as a three-year-old. She has had some success as a broodmare in Japan.

Septimus was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which was frequently interrupted by injury he won eight of his thirteen races between September 2005 and November 2008. He showed very promising form as a juvenile, winning the Beresford Stakes and finishing third when favourite the Racing Post Trophy and went on to win the Dante Stakes by eight lengths in an abbreviated three-year-old campaign. At four he won the Mooresbridge Stakes and was then stepped up in distance to take the Lonsdale Cup and the Doncaster Cup. In his final season he won the Curragh Cup and the Irish St. Leger, taking the latter event by thirteen lengths. He was rated the best horse in the world over extended distances in both 2007 and 2008. He was retired to stud but had fertility problems and died on 12 December 2010 after complications resulting from a gelding operation.

She failed to win in six starts in the following year and was retired at the end of the season.

Merchant Navy is an Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed considerable promise as a juvenile when he was undefeated in three start including the Listed ANZAC Day Stakes. As a three-year-old he proved himself one of the best horses of his generation in Australia over sprint distances, taking the HDF McNeil Stakes and the Coolmore Stud Stakes as well as being placed in both the Rubiton Stakes and the Newmarket Handicap. In the summer of 2018 he was relocated to Europe where he won both his races, the Greenlands Stakes in Ireland and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Melody Belle is a champion New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse who is the only horse to win the New Zealand Triple Crown. She is also a two-time New Zealand Horse of the Year and holds the New Zealand record for the most Group 1 races won with 14, surpassing the previous New Zealand record of 13 set by the great mare Sunline and only one off the Australian record of 15 set by Black Caviar.
