History
In 1992, when wave was believed to be dead, In Mitra Medusa Inri was founded. With the intention to convert their events and emotions into music, Volker and Holger started their musical work and Michael joined soon. Only a short time later, they signed their first record deal at Spirit Productions. Very soon various concerts, for example at Zwischenfall ( D-Bochum ) and Kassablanca ( D-Jena ) followed. The reaction of the audience was positive without exception and so the band became famous in the scene. Due to internal problems in 1995 IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI firstly was winded up for a while.
1996
Because a lot of fans demanded Mozart (Spirit Productions) about IMMI and the reason of their musical pause, they made the purpose to the original members of the band to publish a CD. After intensive talks which should eliminate the known problems they decided to restart. The CD Long forgotten world was produced and sold about 2.000 units. Fans from Italy, Poland, Switzerland and Germany got in touch with the band. Unfortunately, the problems which caused the first cut came up again. Holger and Michael separated from their singer Volker in order to go choose new ways.
1998
Holger and Michael concentrated on organising concerts for a club. Wishing to compose further songs and to take opportunity of the creative output they founded MY PERSONAL COUNTDOWN just a little later. This new project should start at the point where IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI collapsed. After Volker had published a second CD under the name of IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI in the meantime, his band collapsed definitely. Without further ado Holger and Michael decided to operate again as IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI. The clear statement is: "This band is an important part of our life." The two create new old sounds with the following message: Close your eyes and let yourself fall.
2003
With their actual longplayer Darkness between us (release November 2003, Apollyon) IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI created a world of melancholy, longing and also critical impressions. Far from cliché it offers an individual sound. Ten tracks melting to a work of art, carried by a warm voice and wistful guitars. A collection of emotions coupled with love for details which has the intention to take the listener on a journey to his inner mind. Style: JOY DIVISION meets NEW ORDER meets THE CURE. The name
IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI - a name of phantasy - if you want, a number of expressions. It has, however, a deeper sense, although - or even because - the members of the band, realize and express the meaning of their music in their very own way.
In Greek legends, MEDUSA is described as a female monster/god, whose look lets everything become stone. With their music the band hopes to receive a similar penetrate effect at their listeners.
In form of fish's head MITRA originally symbolized the hat of god Dagon. It counts as a sign of friendship. We, IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI (IMMI) are friends, not just a few people who joined in order to make music. Common ways through ups and downs unite them so that the original meaning of "Mitra" has characterising meaning for the guys.
INRI is the abbreviation for Christian religion (as well as inscription of the cross: Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, in English: Jesus of Nazareth, king of Jews) - religion need not be a given schema but may be everything - a song, a poem, a feeling.
Burzum was a Norwegian music project founded by Varg Vikernes in 1991. Although Burzum never played live performances, it became a part of the early Norwegian black metal scene and is considered one of the most influential acts in black metal's history. He has also released four dark ambient and neofolk albums. The word "burzum" means "darkness" in the black speech, a fictional language crafted by Lord of the Rings writer J. R. R. Tolkien. Burzum's lyrics and imagery are often inspired by fantasy and Norse mythology, and do not feature the political views Vikernes is known for.
Swans are an American experimental rock band formed in 1982 by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira. One of few acts to emerge from the New York City-based no wave scene and stay intact into the next decade, Swans have become recognized for an ever-changing sound, exploring genres such as noise rock, post-punk, industrial and post-rock. Initially, their music was known for its sonic brutality and misanthropic lyrics. Following the addition of singer, songwriter and keyboardist Jarboe in 1986, Swans began to incorporate melody and intricacy into their music. Jarboe remained the band's only constant member except Gira and semi-constant guitarist Norman Westberg until their dissolution in 1997.
Can was a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne in 1968 by the core quartet of Holger Czukay, Irmin Schmidt (keyboards), Michael Karoli (guitar), and Jaki Liebezeit (drums). The group cycled through several vocalists, most prominently the American-born Malcolm Mooney (1968–70) and the Japanese-born Damo Suzuki (1970–73), as well as various temporary members.
Clan of Xymox, also known as simply Xymox, are a Dutch rock band formed in 1981 best known as pioneers of darkwave music. Clan of Xymox featured a trio of singers and songwriters – Ronny Moorings, Anka Wolbert, and Pieter Nooten – and gained success in the 1980s, releasing their first two albums on 4AD, before releasing their third and fourth albums on Wing Records and scoring a hit single in the United States. Their 1980s releases included synthpop/electronic dance music. The band is still active, continuing to tour and release records with Moorings as the sole remaining original songwriter and singer.
The Lost Patrol is an American rock band whose music falls into the categories of experimental, gothic, post-punk, dark wave, ethereal wave, folk, alternative country, shoegazing, Spaghetti Western and "surf-a-billy". The band uses electric guitars, 12-string acoustic guitars, Moog and other synthesizers.
Classic Queen is a 1992 compilation album by the British rock band Queen. The album is seen as a US version of Greatest Hits II and was issued to capitalise on the renewed popularity of Queen in the United States following the release of the movie Wayne's World and the death of Freddie Mercury. The album reached number four on the US Billboard 200 and is certified three times platinum in the US and five times platinum in Canada. Accumulated sales are in excess of 25 million worldwide.
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres.

Deine Lakaien is a German band project active since 1985. It is formed by the vocalist Alexander Veljanov and by the composer and multi-instrumentalist Ernst Horn. The group unites influences from dark wave with pop music and elements of avant-garde.
13 & God is the first studio album by 13 & God, a collaboration between American hip hop group Themselves and German rock band The Notwist. It was released on Anticon and Alien Transistor in 2005. "Men of Station / Soft Atlas" was released as a single from the album.
Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions is the eighth studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke, released in November 1990 by Noise Records. After the commercial failure of their previous album Outside the Gate in 1988, singer Jaz Coleman and guitarist Geordie Walker were the last remaining members of the group. In December 1988, they recruited new musicians to perform a one-off concert in Porchester and premiered new songs, including early versions of "Extremities" and "The Beautiful Dead". The band didn't have any support of a record company anymore: Virgin had fired them and their label E.G. sued them. Coleman stated that it was a very stressful period of time for him and Walker. The new material was more intense, the band performed it live during a US tour in 1989. Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions was recorded in 1990 for a German independent label: bassist Paul Raven was called back before entering into the studio. Drummer Martin Atkins, formerly of Public Image Ltd and Ministry, had joined the band in 1988 and co-composed the songs with Coleman and Walker.
Love is Colder Than Death, commonly abbreviated LiCTD or LICTD, is an early German neoclassical dark wave band that was one of the cornerstones to Hyperium Records' Heavenly Voices compilation series of the early 1990s. It is named after the 1969 Fassbinder film Liebe ist kälter als der Tod. The band's music is characterized by its extensive use of both romantic and classical styled male and female vocals. Founded by Ralf Donis, Maik Hartung, Sven Mertens, and Susann Heinrich in 1990, the band members and music have changed slightly since then. The first few LICTD albums were released on the Hyperium record label in Europe and on the new Metropolis Records label in the United States.

Dark Night of the Soul is a studio album by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, featuring collaborations by numerous notable musicians. Its release was postponed due to a legal dispute with the album's distributor EMI. It was finally released in July 2010, about a year after it had been leaked to the Internet and Danger Mouse had released a blank CD-R as a way of working around the dispute.

Race is the third studio album released by Australian new wave band, Pseudo Echo. It was released via EMI Australia in 1988 and RCA Records internationally in 1989. Race resulted in a musical change for the group as it mirrored the music landscape at the time; dominated by big hair, big guitars and rock. While the album no doubt alienated the majority of the band's fan base, it equally attracted a new breed of rock loving fans.
The Breath of Life is a dark wave, ethereal wave and gothic rock band from Belgium. "I guess you can say that The Breath of Life are an institution in the Belgian Goth scene. During decades they were, without any doubt, the sole Belgian band who was able to blend ethereal darkwave, gothrock and post-punk. Or perhaps it is better just to think of The Breath of Life as they created a very personal sound" wrote Peek A Boo magazine in February 2015.
Ulysses is a German progressive rock band from the early 1990s with an international line-up. They were part of a colourful scene of new bands, labels and magazines that emerged in Germany at that time. Musically, they were less influenced by the German "Krautrock" phenomenon but initially oriented strongly towards the second generation of British progressive rock bands. Hegarty & Halliwell would have classified them as part of third wave of progressive rock bands, who can also be described as a second generation of neo-progressive bands. So one might not wonder that most reviewers heard similarities to Marillion, Galahad and Änglagård in their music which is characterised by a strong emphasis on melodies and the integration of folkloristic elements, abrupt changes of moods and partly complex and ever changing arrangements often moving towards a climax.
