In the Basement (Im Keller) is a 2014 Austrian documentary film directed by Ulrich Seidl about people and their obsessions, and what they do in their basements in their free time. It was part of the Out of Competition section at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. [1] [2]

Critical reception

Glass Magazine called the film "unflinching and unsettling" in its review. [3] Guy Lodge wrote "this is an arm's-length exercise in observation, even in scenes of discomfiting intimacy" in his review for Variety . [4]

Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are an Austrian filmmaking duo. Fiala is the nephew of Franz and her husband, filmmaker Ulrich Seidl. Franz, a former film journalist, began her film career co-writing with Seidl. Franz and Fiala began their creative partnership writing and directing Kern (2012), a documentary about the actor Peter Kern. They went on to gain international notice for their feature debut, the German-language psychological horror film Goodnight Mommy (2014), which was selected as the Austrian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.

The Novelist's Film is a 2022 South Korean black and white drama film written and directed by Hong Sang-soo. The Novelist's Film starring Lee Hye-young and Kim Min-hee, is described as the film that, "celebrates the beauty of chance encounters, while talking about the importance of authenticity in the dishonest world of cinema" by the executive director Carlo Shatrian of 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, where it premiered in competition section on February 16, 2022. It is for the third consecutive year that Hong Sang-soo has been invited to the festival. The film won Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the festival, which is 4th for the director Hong Sang-soo's films. It was released theatrically in South Korea on April 21, 2022.

<i>Rimini</i> (film) 2022 film

Rimini is a 2022 drama film directed by Ulrich Seidl. It depicts Richie Bravo, a once-famous Austrian pop singer who has settled in Italy, as well as his estranged daughter and his retired father. Hans-Michael Rehberg plays the father, in his last film role. The film is the first in a diptych; the other film, titled Sparta, is about Richie's brother, Ewald.
