Indrajit Hazra [1] [2] [3] is an Indian journalist and author of the books The Bioscope Man [4] and Grand Delusions: A Short Biography of Kolkata published by Aleph Book Company [5] in 2013.

He was born and raised in Kolkata and studied at La Martiniere Calcutta and Jadavpur University.

He is currently editor of Hindustan Times

The film was the first big hit in the history of Bombay cinema, and the first blockbuster in Indian cinema.

Ganesh Pyne was an Indian painter and draughtsman, born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Pyne is one of the most notable contemporary artists of the Bengal School of Art, who had also developed his own style of "poetic surrealism", fantasy and dark imagery, around the themes of Bengali folklore and mythology.

Badal Sircar Indian playwright

Badal Sircar, also known as Badal Sarkar, was an influential Indian dramatist and theatre director, most known for his anti-establishment plays during the Naxalite movement in the 1970s and taking theatre out of the proscenium and into public arena, when he transformed his own theatre company, Shatabdi as a third theatre group. He wrote more than fifty plays of which Evam Indrajit, Basi Khabar, and Saari Raat are well known literary pieces. A pioneering figure in street theatre as well as in experimental and contemporary Bengali theatre with his egalitarian "Third Theatre", he prolifically wrote scripts for his Aanganmanch performances, and remains one of the most translated Indian playwrights. Though his early comedies were popular, it was his angst-ridden Evam Indrajit that became a landmark play in Indian theatre. Today, his rise as a prominent playwright in 1960s is seen as the coming of age of Modern Indian playwriting in Bengali, just as Vijay Tendulkar did it in Marathi, Mohan Rakesh in Hindi, and Girish Karnad in Kannada.

Shyamanand Jalan Indian thespian

Shyamanand Jalan was a Kolkata-based Indian theatre director, and actor. He is credited for the renaissance period of modern Indian theatre and especially the Hindi theatre in Kolkata from the 1960s to 1980s. He was the first to perform modernist Mohan Rakesh, starting with Ashadh Ka Ek Din in 1960 and in the coming years bridged the gap between Hindi theatre and Bengali theatre, by mounting Hindi productions of works by Bengali playwrights, like Badal Sircar's Evam Indrajit (1968) and Pagla Ghora (1971), which in turn introduced Sircar to rest of the country. In 2005, he directed his first and only film Eashwar Mime Co., which was an adaptation of Dibyendu Palit's story, Mukhabhinoy, by Vijay Tendulkar.

<i>The Bioscope Man</i>

The Bioscope Man is the third novel of Indian author Indrajit Hazra. It is set in Calcutta and stitches early 20th century Indian cultural and cinema history with the farcical story of Abani Chatterjee to conduct a darkly comic investigation of the phenomena of pretending, lying and acting. It was published by Penguin Books India on 1 May 2008, and was translated into French the following year by Marc Amfreville. The French translation was entitled Le Roi du Cinéma Muet and was published by Le Cherche Midi.

Nattoji started his career in documentary film making and then moved from television to advertising to being a feature filmmaker. He continues to be an ad-filmmaker and runs his own film production company, Blink Pictures. Nattoji has made his directional debut Aagey Se Right (2009) which was produced by Ronnie Screwvala, under the banner of UTV Spotboy a subsidiary of UTV Motion Pictures. <i>Bioscopewala</i> 2017 Indian film

Bioscopewala is an Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Deb Medhekar, and produced by Sunil Doshi. The film stars Danny Denzongpa and Geetanjali Thapa in lead roles and had its world premiere at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival on 28 October 2017. The film is an adaptation of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's 1892 short story Kabuliwala and released on 25 May 2018 in India. The official trailer of the film was released on YouTube by Fox Star Studios on 8 May 2018. Bioscopewala has taken forward the timeline of Kabuliwala, the original story written by Rabindranath Tagore, from the 19th century to somewhere in the 1980s during the Taliban regime and changed the profession of Rehmat, the central character, from a dry fruit seller to a man who goes around showing films to children through his bioscope.

<i>Conversations with Waheeda Rehman</i> Biography by Nasreen Munni Kabir

Conversations with Waheeda Rehman is a biography by the producer of television documentaries and author Nasreen Munni Kabir, documenting Kabir's extensive conversations with the actress Waheeda Rehman about the actress' life and career. The biography details Rehman's birth in 1938 in Chingleput, her 54-year-long film career, and her 1974 marriage to the actor Kamaljeet, with whom she has two children. It was published on 19 February 2014 by Penguin Books. The book generated positive reviews from book critics; most of the praise was directed towards the book's question-and-answer format, and Kabir's and Rehman's style in questioning and answering, respectively.

<i>Yours Guru Dutt</i> Book by Nasreen Munni Kabir

Yours Guru Dutt is a 2006 book by the British author and television documentary producer Nasreen Munni Kabir, containing a total of 37 handwritten letters in both English and Hindi by the Indian actor and filmmaker Guru Dutt—most of which are addressed to his wife Geeta. The book, published by Roli Books and became Kabir's second book about Dutt after Guru Dutt: A Life in Cinema (1996), was commercially successful. It garnered positive critical acclaim, with some reviewers noting the elegance in his letters.

Pramod Kapoor is an Indian writer and publisher, who in 1978 founded Roli Books, a publishing company that prints books pertaining to Indian heritage. In 2016, for his contributions to publishing, he was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
