Infosys BPM, the business process management subsidiary of Infosys, was set up in April 2002. Infosys BPM provides integrated outsourcing and transformation services. It is headquartered in Bengaluru, India. [1]

History

The company was started as Progeon Limited in April 2002 and is among the leading outsourcing companies in India according to NASSCOM. [3] It was started as a 74-26 joint venture between Infosys and Citibank Investments. In 2006, Infosys bought out Citibank's share at a price of ₹592 per share, Citibank having invested at ₹0.20 per share. [4]

It opened its first international office in Brno, Czech Republic in 2004 to support its European clients. In 2006, its employee strength reached 10,000 and its name was changed from Progeon Limited to Infosys BPO Limited. It was renamed to Infosys BPM Limited in 2018. [5] In 2019, Infosys BPM formed a joint venture with Hitachi, Panasonic and Pasona. Infosys took an 81% stake in the new company, HIPUS Co. Ltd, which was aimed at providing digital procurement platforms for the Japanese market. [3]

As of March 2021, Infosys BPM had 46,130 employees, most of which were based in India. During the year 2021, it had gross addition of 8,869 employees globally, of which 6,074 employees were hired in India. [6]

Infosys BPM operates through 35 delivery locations across 14 countries in Asia, Americas, Europe and rest of the world, with majority of its employee strength based in India. [7] The company currently employs more than 50,200 people (Dec. 31, 2021). [8]

About 60% business of Infosys BPM comes from overlapping clients with the parent Infosys Ltd. [9] During the FY 2013-14, it earned 48% of its revenue from North America, 34% from Europe, 4% from India and remaining 14% from other parts of the world. [10] The proportion of voice and non-voice related revenue was 11:89 in the same financial year. [10]

It has a total of six subsidiaries. The three major subsidiaries are Infosys Portland, Infosys McCamish Systems, both of which are acquisitions, and Infosys BPO Americas, LLC. [6]

The information technology (I.T.) industry in India comprises information technology services and business process outsourcing. The share of the IT-BPM sector in the GDP of India is 7.4% in FY 2022. The IT and BPM industries' revenue is estimated at US$ 245 billion in FY 2023. The domestic revenue of the IT industry is estimated at $51 billion, and export revenue is estimated at $194 billion in FY 2023. The IT–BPM sector overall employs 5.4 million people as of March 2023. In December 2022, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha informed that IT units registered with state-run Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and Special Economic Zones have exported software worth Rs 11.59 lakh crore in 2021–22.

Outsource Partners International (OPI) was acquired by EXL in June 2011. The acquisition marked the end of F&A outsourcing of OPI. OPI was a multinational company with headquarters in New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA. It operates from more than a dozen global locations throughout the US, UK, India, Bulgaria, and Malaysia. OPI was formed in 2002 through the acquisition of big four accounting firm's Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) division and itAccounts, a finance and accounting BPO company with an offshore F&A outsourcing facility in Bangalore, India. It offers finance, accounting and tax outsourcing services.

HCL AXON is a UK-based consultancy which sells its services to customers using SAP and Oracle as their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system modeling tools. Previously listed on the London Stock Exchange, and a FTSE 250 Index constituent, the company has been a subsidiary of Indian outsourcing firm HCL Technologies since December 2008, after the reverse merger of Axon Group and HCL SAP practice.

Phaneesh Murthy is an Indian technology businessman. He was director of Infosys Ltd from 2000 to 2002. Subsequently, he became the Chief Executive Officer of iGATE Corporation in 2003, after the company acquired his start-up Quintant. Murthy later became President in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010. Rusi Brij was an Indian business executive and entrepreneur. He was executive director of Satyam Computers, and CEO and vice-chairman of Hexaware Technologies. Its customers include publishers, information aggregators, professional societies, universities and corporations worldwide.

Information Technology in Sri Lanka refers to business process outsourcing, knowledge process outsourcing, software development, IT Services, and IT education in Sri Lanka. Infosys Consulting is a management consulting, IT consulting practice within the larger Infosys organization which works in strategy, IT transformation, change management and business analytics. Infosys Consulting operates globally and currently has offices in 18 countries across the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe. The firm was officially launched in 2004 as a fully owned subsidiary of Infosys chaired by N. R. Narayana Murthy, one of the co-founders of Infosys. For quarter-end March, 2016 Infosys Consulting and Package Implementation were reported as 33.2% of the whole of Infosys' revenue, contributing to the reported earnings of 23 cents a share on revenue of $2.4 billion that December for Infosys.

Enshored is an outsourcing company founded in 2014 which provides outsourcing services such as customer service, sales support, back office, and content moderation. Its headquarters are located in Long Beach, California and it operates from three locations in the Philippines as well as from Lisbon, Portugal. Enshored works with start-ups and scale-ups in disruptive industries.
