Interior Design is an American interior design magazine, [1] which has been in circulation since 1932.

History and profile

Interior Design was founded by Harry V. Anderson in Manhattan in 1932. [2] He was also the publisher and editor of the magazine, which temporarily ceased publication during World War II. [2] Following the war Anderson and John Hay Whitney of Whitney Communications Company relaunched the magazine. [2] In 1959 the company became the sole owner of Interior Design. [2] Harry V. Anderson served as the editor and publisher until 1969. [2]

The other editors have included Donald D. Macmillan; [3] Sherman R. Emery, from 1960 to 1983; [4] and Stanley Abercrombie. The current editor is Cindy Allen. In 1984 Cahners Publishing, later Reed Business Information, bought the magazine from Whitney Communications Company. [5] Sandow Media acquired the magazine in March 2010. [6] The interior design magazine is headquartered in New York City. [7]

Ace Books is a publisher of science fiction (SF) and fantasy books founded in New York City in 1952 by Aaron A. Wyn. It began as a genre publisher of mysteries and westerns, and soon branched out into other genres, publishing its first science fiction title in 1953. This was successful, and science fiction titles outnumbered both mysteries and westerns within a few years. Other genres also made an appearance, including nonfiction, gothic novels, media tie-in novelizations, and romances. Ace became known for the tête-bêche binding format used for many of its early books, although it did not originate the format. Most of the early titles were published in this "Ace Double" format, and Ace continued to issue books in varied genres, bound tête-bêche, until 1973.

Florence Marguerite Knoll Bassett was an American architect, interior designer, furniture designer, and entrepreneur who has been credited with revolutionizing office design and bringing modernist design to office interiors. Knoll and her husband, Hans Knoll, built Knoll Associates into a leader in the fields of furniture and interior design. She worked to professionalize the field of interior design, fighting against gendered stereotypes of the decorator. She is known for her open office designs, populated with modernist furniture and organized rationally for the needs of office workers. Her modernist aesthetic was known for clean lines and clear geometries that were humanized with textures, organic shapes, and colour.

<i>Architectural Digest</i> American monthly interior design and landscaping magazine

Architectural Digest is an American monthly magazine founded in 1920. Its principal subjects are interior design and landscaping, rather than pure external architecture. The magazine is published by Condé Nast, which also publishes international editions of Architectural Digest in Italy, China, France, Germany, India, Spain, Mexico/Latin America and the Middle East. The Polish edition is set to debut in 2023.

The magazine was established in 1981 by Horace Havemeyer III of Bellerophon Publications, Inc alongside his wife Eugenie Cowan Havemeyer and is based in New York City. Metropolis’s work towards future focused is based in their motto “design at all scales”.

<i>Furniture Style</i>

Furniture Style (magazine) was a monthly business-to-business magazine and Web site serving home furnishings retailers, specifically furniture retailers, and interior designers. Owned by William C. Vance's Vance Publishing Corp., the magazine was BPA-audited and reaches 25,000 furniture retail professionals in the United States and Canada. The magazine was based in Lincolnshire, Illinois, at Vance Publishing's corporate headquarters; it was founded in October 1996. Key members of the editorial staff included Julie M. Smith, publisher; Romy Schafer, editor; Thomas A. Prais & Sara Sandock, managing editors; and Senior Contributing Editor Nancy Robinson. It ceased publication in 2009. The next year, Vance sold the Furniture Style assets to Scranton Gillette Communications.

For almost twenty years he created the covers for Interior Design magazine, and also books on interiors and for murals.

Gere Kavanaugh is an American textile, industrial, and interior designer. She is the principal of Gere Kavanaugh Designs.

Adam I. Sandow is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He is the founder and chairman of a self-named holding company, and the founder, chairman and CEO of Material Bank, an online platform for searching and sampling architectural, design and construction materials. Sandow began his career in publishing, starting several media companies and publications, including NewBeauty and Luxe Interiors + Design. He acquired Interior Design, the finance magazine Worth, and the intellectual property of the clothing brand Fred Segal. In 2019, Sandow founded Material Bank and acquired Metropolis, an architecture and design magazine.

Rhoda Garrett was an English suffragist and interior designer.
