International Chamber Music Competition Hamburg

The International Chamber Music Competition Hamburg (ICMC Hamburg) has been held in Hamburg, Germany since September 2009. The competition takes place every three years and is for performers of two types of chamber music, String Quartet and Piano Trio. [1]

Director of the International Chamber Music Competition Hamburg is Prof. Niklas Schmidt who is teaching cello at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and was one of the founders of the former Trio Fontenay. Project leader of the competition is the cultural manager Jan Wulf.

Peter Ruzicka is a German composer and conductor of classical music. He was director of the Hamburg State Opera, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hamburg and the Salzburg Festival. Martynas Švėgžda von Bekker is a Lithuanian violinist and musical educator.

Volker David Kirchner was a German composer and violist. After studies of violin and composition at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory, the Hochschule für Musik Köln and the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, he worked for decades as a violist in the Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt. The Signum Quartet is a string quartet based in Cologne, Germany. Founded in 1994, it has been playing in the current formation since 2016.

Wilhelm Stross was a German violinist and composer. He was professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln as well as first violin of the Stross Quartet.

The Mendelssohn Scholarship, awarded by the Prussian State from 1879 to 1936, was revived in 1963 by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. The Foundation awards the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Prize once a year per competition opened to particularly talented students at one of the 23 recognised music academies in Germany.

She played first as an orchestra member, but then as a soloist, a founding member of the Tetzlaff Quartet, a string quartet led by her brother Christian Tetzlaff, and as a chamber musician.
