The International Who's Who is a Who's Who reference book of notable people worldwide that has been published since 1935.

Who's Who is the title of a number of reference publications, generally containing concise biographical information on the prominent people of a country.

History

The first edition was published in 1935 by Europa Publications.

The eighth edition (1943-44) was published in 1943 at the height of the Second World War and included for the first time the names of Generals Eisenhower, Vatutin and Govorov. [1] The publishers note in their preface that they took special pains to include details of those in the Axis countries and Adolf Hitler appeared accordingly under H in the book. [2]

Dwight D. Eisenhower 34th president of the United States

Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower was an American army general and statesman who served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961. During World War II, he was a five-star general in the United States Army and served as supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe. He was responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45 from the Western Front.

Leonid Govorov Soviet military commander

Leonid Aleksandrovich Govorov was a Soviet military commander. An artillery officer, he joined the Red Army in 1920. He graduated from several Soviet military academies, including the Military Academy of Red Army General Staff. He participated in the Winter War as a senior artillery officer.

Adolf Hitler Leader of Germany from 1934 to 1945

Adolf Hitler was a German politician and leader of the Nazi Party. He rose to power as Chancellor of Germany in 1933 and later Führer in 1934. During his dictatorship from 1933 to 1945, he initiated World War II in Europe by invading Poland in September 1939. He was closely involved in military operations throughout the war and was central to the perpetration of the Holocaust.

From 2000 the book has been published by Routledge, an imprint of the UK publishing group Taylor and Francis, [3] and by 2006 it contained approximately 25,000 entries. [4]

Routledge global publisher

Routledge is a British multinational publisher. It was founded in 1836 by George Routledge, and specialises in providing academic books, journals, & online resources in the fields of humanities, behavioural science, education, law and social science. The company publishes approximately 1,800 journals and 5,000 new books each year and their backlist encompasses over 70,000 titles. Routledge is claimed to be the largest global academic publisher within humanities and social sciences.

Scams

The Who's Who brand has been tainted by the numerous Who's Who scams, which function by attempting to convince someone that they deserve to be in the Who's Who directory, but a prepayment is required.

A Who's Who scam is a fraudulent Who's Who biographical directory. Who's Who scams involve the selling of "memberships" in fraudulent directories that are created online or through instant publishing services. These fraudulent directories represent thinly veiled moneymaking scams.
