Ioannis Arabatzis (Athens, 13 August 1977) is a Greek chemist and entrepreneur, [1] [2] known as the founder and managing director of the Greek nanotech company, NanoPhos SA. [3] [4]
Arabatzis obtained his BSc in chemistry from the University of Ioannina and a PhD in chemical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, later earning an MBA from ALBA Graduate Business School. [5]
In 2005, he won the first prize at the European Business Plan Competition in Stockholm, [6] after which, he founded the nanotechn company NanoPhos SA in Lavrio, a town outside of Athens. At the 7th GREEN4SEA Athens Forum (2018), Arabatzis presented on the “Hull Coatings Technologies,” detailing NanoPhos's research efforts in nanotechnology driven marine coatings for antifouling, insulation and friction reduction. [7]
In the years 2013-2015, his group collaborated on the development of hydrophobic resin systems for wood-based panels, demonstrating the utility of nanotechnology in improving the material surface properties. [8] [9] In November 2017, his group developed the product, NanoPhos Marine, which was recognized for its “smart” nanocoating solutions, receiving the Technical Achievement Award at the Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards. [10]
Leading the R&D of the company, he contributed to a study published in journal, Frontiers in Materials to preserve cultural-heritage constructions. [11] [12] Addiotionally, he has developed two patents in this nanotechnology field, [13] and has published more than 30 research papers in international journal, having more than 1,100 citations at Google Scholar.
