Panathinaikos Athlitikos Omilos, also known simply as Panathinaikós, is a major Greek multi-sport club based in the City of Athens. Panathinaikos is one of the most successful multi-sport clubs and one of the oldest clubs in Greece. The name "Panathinaikos" was inspired by the ancient work of Isocrates Panathenaicus, where the orator praise the Athenians for their democratic education and their military superiority, which use it for benefit of all Greeks.

Ioannis Frangoudis was a Greek Cypriot soldier, athlete and Hellenic Army officer who reached the rank of Colonel. He also competed in the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens as a shooter, representing the Kingdom of Greece. Frangoudis is the only Greek athlete who has won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in a single Olympic.
Volodymyr Stepanovych Holubnychy was a Ukrainian race walker, who competed for the Soviet Union. He dominated the 20 kilometre race walk in the 1960s and 1970s, winning four Olympic medals from 1960 to 1972 and finishing seventh in 1976. He became Olympic champion in 1960 and 1968. He is regarded as one of the greatest race walkers of all time and competed at the Olympics on five occasions in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976.

David John Oliver Forbes OAM was an Australian sailor who competed for his country at three Olympics from 1968 to 1976. George Mavrotas is a former member of the Greek Parliament, while also being a retired Greek water polo player and associate professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. In July 2019 he was designated as General Secretary of Sport in the Greek Government.

Ioannis Garifallos is a Greek former water polo player who competed in the 1980 Summer Olympics. He played for Greek powerhouse Ethnikos Piraeus. He is the son of “Patriarch of Greek water polo” Andreas Garyfallos. He played in the 70s and 80s winning 16 Greek championships with his childhood club Ethnikos.
Henry Herscovici was an Israeli sports shooter. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics and the 1972 Summer Olympics. He also competed at the 1966, 1970, and 1974 Asian Games and the 1965 and 1969 Maccabiah Games.
Alexandros Spanoudakis was a Greek basketball player. He represented the Greece men's national basketball team. Along with his brother, Ioannis, he is considered to be one of the early leading pioneers of the sport of modern basketball in the country of Greece. While a member of the Greek Basket League club Olympiacos, he became the first Greek basketball player to shoot jump shots in the modern style and technique, in the 1950s.
