The Iranian International Championships [1] also known as the Iran International was a men's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1966. [2] It was first held in Opt Esteghlal Tennis Club, Tehran, Iran. The tournament ran until 1970 then was discontinued.

History

In 1937 the Iranian Tennis Federation was founded. [3] In 1948 Iran was admitted as a full member of the International Lawn Tennis Federation. [4] In 1966 the first leading open international tournament was established the Iranian International Championships. [5] [6] The championships were usually held in September until 1970.

The Japan Open is a men's tennis tournament held in Ariake Tennis Forest Park with its center court Ariake Coliseum, located in Koto, Tokyo. It has been held since 1972. In 2018, the venue switched to the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza as the Ariake Coliseum was renovated for the tennis events at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The championship includes men's singles and doubles competitions. The "All-Japan Championships" was founded in 1922. Before 1972, the All-Japan championships was an international event but after the Japan Open began, the All-Japan championships became a national event.

The 7th Asian Games, also known as Tehran 1974, were held from 1 to 16 September 1974 in Tehran, Iran. The Aryamehr Sports Complex was built for the Games. This marked the first time the Asian Games were hosted in the Middle East. Tehran, the capital of Iran, played host to 3,010 athletes coming from 25 countries/NOCs, the highest number of participants since the inception of the Games.

The Irish Open and originally known as the Irish Championships or Irish Lawn Tennis Championships, and for sponsorship reasons also known as Carroll's Irish Open Championships was a men's and women's tennis tournament held at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin, Ireland. Before the creation of the International Lawn Tennis Federation and the establishment of its world championship events in 1913, it was considered by players and historians one of the four most important tennis tournaments to win. the others being Wimbledon, the U.S. National championships and the Northern Championships. The men's event was part of the pre-open era tour from inception until 1967. It was then part of the open era non-aligned independent tour (1968–69). From 1970 to 1974, it was an event on the Grand Prix tennis circuit. The women's event was on the same tours as the men except for when it became part of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour from 1971 to 1973. The Southern Transvaal Championships was a men's and women's international tennis tournament founded as the Transvaal Championships 1891 and was originally played on outdoor grass courts at the Wanderers Lawn Tennis Club, then switched to hard courts later. It was first staged at the Wanderers Lawn Tennis Club, Cape Town, Western Cape Province, South Africa. The championships were held until 1977.

The German Indoor Championships or officially the West German Indoor Championships was a men's and women's international open tennis tournament founded in 1911 as the German Covered Court Championships or German International Covered Court Championships and first played on indoor wood courts at the Bremen Tennis Club. The tournament was mainly held in Bremen, West Germany, but was also played at other locations for the duration of its run. In 1981 the championships were last held in Stuttgart then it was discontinued.

The Danish Seniors National Championships (Closed) also known is a men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1889 as the Danish National Championships . also known as the Danish Outdoor Championships The tournament ran annually through from 1921 to 1968 as part of the worldwide ILTF Circuit. In 1969 it became part of the ILTF Independent Tour until 1982 when it was dropped from that schedule. Today it is and ITF Seniors G3 tournament.
