The Iranian National Museum of Medical Sciences History is the first medical museum established in Iran by a joint project between the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

History

In the spring of 1997 and during a meeting in the presence of Dr. Mohammad Frahadi (the former Minister of Health and Medical Education), Dr. Eiraj Fazel (the former head of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences), Sayyed Mohammad Beheshti (the former head of the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization) and Dr. Mohammad Reza Zafarqandi (the former head of Tehran University of Medical Sciences) and many other officials, Dr. Maziar Ashrafian Bonab was appointed head of the project and the museum.

During the first two years of the project, a historic building which dates back to the late Qajar era and located in North Amir Abad (Tehran) was allocated and prepared for this museum. At the same time, several scientific research were performed by groups of researchers and scientists under the supervision of Dr. Maziar Ashrafian Bonab, to find, locate and collect all objects, documents, manuscripts and even art works related to the medical history of the country.

The museum was Inaugurated in September 2002 by Dr. Mohammad Farhadi, Dr. Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi and Sayyed Mohammad Beheshti and Dr. Maziar Ashrafian Bonab. Since 2002 Dr. Shams Shariate Torbaqan has been the head of the museum.

Description

The museum is jointly operated by ICHO and the Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

University of Tehran Iranian university

The University of Tehran is the oldest modern university located in Tehran, Iran. It is also one of the most prestigious universities in the Middle East. Based on its historical, socio-cultural, and political pedigree, as well as its research and teaching profile, UT has been nicknamed "The Mother University of Iran". Mohammad Beheshti

Mohammad Hossein Beheshti was an Iranian jurist, philosopher, and politician who was known as the second person in the political hierarchy of Iran after the revolution. Beheshti is considered to have been the primary architect of Iran's post-revolution constitution, as well as the administrative structure of the Islamic Republic. Beheshti is also known to have selected and trained several prominent politicians in the Islamic Republic, such as current President Hassan Rouhani, former President Mohammad Khatami, Ali Akbar Velayati, Mohammad Javad Larijani, Ali Fallahian, and Mostafa Pourmohammadi. Beheshti also served as the Secretary General of the Islamic Republic Party, and was the head of the Iranian judicial system. He further served as Chairman of the Council of Islamic Revolution, and the Assembly of Experts. Beheshti earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy, and was fluent in English, German and Arabic.

Sadabad Complex

The Sa'dabad Palace Complex is a 300 hectare complex built by the Qajar and Pahlavi monarchs, located in Shemiran, Greater Tehran, Iran. Today, the official residence of the President of Iran is located adjacent to the complex.

Shahid Beheshti University is a public university founded in 1959 and one of the top universities in Iran. The university offers a large number of programs at Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. levels.

Alborz High School Public school in Tehran, Iran

Mohammad Mofatteh

Ayatollah Mohammad Mofatteh was an Iranian philosopher, theologian, and political activist, born in Famenin, Hamadan, Iran. After he finished his primary education in Hamadan, he left for the Islamic Seminary in Qom, where he was taught by reputable teachers such as Ayatollah Muhammad Hujjat Kuh-Kamari, Ayatollah Sayyed Hossein Tabatabei Borujerdi, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ruhollah Mūsavi Khomeini, Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Golpaygani, Ayatollah Marashi, and Allameh Tabatabie. He continued his studies at seminary and at the same time studied philosophy at Tehran University, where he earned his PhD and became a professor and a dean of colleague.

Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is the largest and most highly-ranked medical university of Iran. In September 2008, Iran's Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, Dr. Lankarani, called TUMS a pioneer in research throughout the country with a noticeable lead over its peer universities.

Atomic Energy Organization of Iran

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) is the main Iranian government agency responsible for operating nuclear energy and nuclear fuel cycle installations in Iran. AEOI was involved in formerly undeclared nuclear activities including enrichment facilities at Fordow and Natanz.

Maziar Ashrafian Bonab is an Iranian forensic and medical geneticist, specialising in forensic genetics and Forensic Facial Reconstruction. His groundbreaking research uses human DNA markers to identify the ancestral history of humans/human populations in both anthropological and forensic cases. His main area of research is the population history of the Middle East, specifically Iran.

Mohammad-Reza Golpaygani

Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Golpaygani was an Iranian Shia Islam s and marja scholar was born in 1899 in Gogad village near the city of Golpaygan, Iran. He was taught preliminary studies by his father, Mohammad Bagher. At the age of 9, his father died, and he moved to Golpaygan to continue his studies. He was one of the highest-ranking Islamic clergies to participate in the Islamic Revolution of 1979, and a one-time serious contender to succeed Ruhollah Khomeini as the Supreme Leader of Iran in 1989. However, his candidacy was voted down by the Assembly of Experts, in favor of the eventual successor and current leader, Ali Khamenei.

The history of the University of Tehran goes back to the days of Dar ul-Funun and the Qajar dynasty. The modern university as it is today was formally established in 1934.

Bagher Larijani

Bagher Ardeshir Larijani is an Iranian medical practitioner at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He is currently Chief Scientific Officer and Director General of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute (EMRI) which has been selected as the highest-ranking research institute in Iran on numerous occasions. According to Google Scholar, in February 2020, his citations exceeded 28021 with an h-index equal to 73. Since 2011, Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI) of ISI Web of Sciences has announced him to be amongst the world’s top 1% scientists. Professor Larijani’s main fields of interest include diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and medical ethics amongst several other interdisciplinary sciences related to endocrinology.

Ali Akbar Rashad Muslim philosopher

Ali Akbar Rashad is an Iranian philosopher and Islamic scholar who pioneered the Ibtina Theory, a theory for explaining the process and mechanism of "religious knowledge" formation.

Hossein Shahshahani Iranian judge (1895–1962)

Hossein Shahshahani was a prominent judge, scholar of Islamic Law and expert of historical documents and manuscripts of Iran.

Masoumeh Abad

Masoumeh Abad is an Iranian author, university professor, and conservative politician. She was a member of the fourth Islamic City Council of Tehran and it's Director of Health Division. Abad is also the author of the book I'm Alive.
