Irene Eyaru (born 23 October 1996) is an Ugandan netball player who represents Uganda internationally and plays in the position of goal attack. [1] She is also the current national captain of the Ugandan national netball team.

Career

She made her international debut representing Uganda in 2015. She has been playing for KCCA Netball Club since 2014 and has also went onto captain the club. She was a key player in Uganda's historic gold medal-winning performance against South Africa at the 2018 World Netball University Games where hosts Uganda prevailed against South Africa under her leadership in a thrilling nail-biting entertainer winning it 44–43 in the end by the barest of all margins. She was named in the Ugandan squad for the 2021 SPAR Challenge Series which was held in South Africa and she eventually won the Best Shooter's plaque during the competition. [5] [6] She was also part of the Ugandan team which took part at the 2022 Fast5 Netball World Series. [7] She represented Uganda at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the women's netball competition where Uganda finished at fifth position. [8]

In 2023, she replaced Peace Proscovia as the captain of the Uganda national netball team just ahead of the highly anticipated Netball World Cup. [9] [10] She made her maiden appearance at a Netball World Cup tournament when South Africa hosted the 2023 Netball World Cup. She eventually captained the Ugandan national team during the 2023 Netball World Cup.

Maia Wilson is a New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand teams that won the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup and the 2021 Constellation Cup. She also represented New Zealand at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Wilson made her senior league debut with Central Pulse during the 2016 ANZ Championship season. Since 2017, she has played for Northern Stars in the ANZ Premiership. In both 2018 and 2019, she was the ANZ Premiership top goal scorer. Wilson was a prominent member of the 2019 and 2022 Northern Stars teams that were ANZ Premiership grand finalists. Ahead of the 2021 season, she was appointed Stars captain. Ameliaranne Ekenasio, previously known as Ameliaranne Wells, is a New Zealand netball international. In 2010 and 2011, Wells represented Australia at under-19 and under-21 levels. In 2014 she switched allegiances to New Zealand. She represented New Zealand at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and was a prominent member of the New Zealand team that won the 2019 Netball World Cup. She captained New Zealand when they won the 2021 Constellation Cup.

Kelly Jury is a New Zealand netball international. She represented New Zealand at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games. During the ANZ Championship era Jury played for Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. Since 2020, she has played for Central Pulse in the ANZ Premiership. Jury was a prominent member of the Pulse teams that won the 2020 and 2022 ANZ Premierships. Alongside Tiana Metuarau, she was co-captain of the 2022 Pulse team. She was the 2022 ANZ Premiership Player of the Year and shared the 2022 Dame Lois Muir Supreme Award with Grace Nweke.

Gina Crampton is a New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand teams that won the 2019 Netball World Cup and the 2021 Constellation Cup. Crampton was also a member of the Southern Steel teams that won the 2017 and 2018 ANZ Premierships. She was named the 2016 New Zealand ANZ Championship Player of the Year and the 2019 ANZ Premiership Player of the Year. Crampton has captained both Southern Steel and New Zealand. Since 2021 she has played for Northern Stars.

Mary Cholhok Nuba, also spelled as Mary Cholhock Nuba, who is also simply known either as Mary Cholhok or Mary Nuba is a South Sudanese born professional Ugandan netball player who plays for Loughborough Lightning in the British Netball Superleague and for the Uganda Netball team as the GS.

Karin Burger is a New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand teams that won the 2019 Netball World Cup and the 2021 Constellation Cup. Burger has also played for both Central Pulse and Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Premiership. She was a member of the Pulse teams that won 2019 and 2020 ANZ Premiership titles. While playing for Tactix, she was named 2021 ANZ Premiership Player of the Year.

The 2019 African Netball Championships was held in Cape Town from 18-23 October 2019. The tournament featured seven nations including hosts South Africa, defending champions Uganda along with Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho and Zimbabwe in 2 pool categories. Tanzania pulled out of the tournament due to financial issues, just a day before the tournament opener against Zimbabwe. The tournament was originally supposed to have its scheduled opening match between defending champions Uganda and Zimbabwe but was called off due to the last minute withdrawal by Tanzania. The authorities later revealed that the match between hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe to be the opening match of the tournament while the tournament was later modified with round robin format.

Malysha Kelly is a Jamaican netball player, who has made over 50 appearances for the national side, and is a former captain. At club level, she most recently played for Severn Stars in the Netball Superleague.

Lefébre Rademan is a South African netball player, who has represented the national team. At club level, she plays for Celtic Dragons in the British Netball Superleague (NSL), and has previously played for London Pulse in the NSL and Free State Crinums in the South African Netball League.

Ivan Magomu is a Ugandan rugby union player who plays as flyhalf for Black Pirates Rugby Club in the country's top tier rugby premier league and the men's fifteens rugby national team, the Uganda national rugby union team known as the Uganda Rugby Cranes. He is the captain of the Black Pirates Rugby Club, a role he has served since 2018. Ahead of the 2021 Rugby Africa Cup, Magomu was named Captain of the Uganda national rugby union team.

The 2022 Netball Superleague season was the seventeenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. Loughborough Lightning were the defending champions, as they won the 2021 season. The season began on 5 February, and ended with the grand final on 5 June.

Lillian Zawedde is a Ugandan female woodball player who plays for the Ndejje University Woodball team. Lillian with Janet Nakkazi, Catherine Armusgut, Sandra Kirabo and Grace Kwarisiima are the founders of the Angels Basketball Club in Uganda.

The Uganda national netball team travelled to England in October 2022 for a three-match series against the England national netball team. The series known commercially as the Vitality Netball International Series marked the start of England's preparations for the 2023 Netball World Cup to be held in South Africa. For Uganda, the series was part of a larger tour of the United Kingdom that saw them play two test matches against both Northern Ireland, and Wales; followed by a further test match against Scotland.
