Ironchrist is an American crossover/thrash metal band founded in 1986 from the demise of the punk rock band Spastic Rats. Along with label mates Indestroy, Ironchrist was one of the biggest metal bands of the late 80s to early 90s in the mid-Atlantic region and considered a pioneer of the punk/metal crossover movement.[citation needed] After touring and recording for several years, Ironchrist disbanded in 1993 and members moved on to pursue other musical and artistic interests. In 2012, Divebomb/Tribunal Records Records re-released Ironchrist's entire discography in a deluxe edition, available as both CD and MP3 download.
Ironchrist's foundation was forged in the early 80s punk scene in Washington DC. Known as the Spastic Rats, members Tristan Lentz and Ned Westrick, along with drummer Kenny Hill opened for punk icons such as Black Flag and Scream before deciding to part ways with Hill and disband. Soon after, Westrick and Treude met and began jamming with Lentz. Deciding to blend their roots with Treude's jazz background and the then current thrash metal movement they decided to change their name from Spastic Rats to Metal God, before landing on Ironchrist.
The original lineup, consisting of Tristan Lentz (guitar, vocals), Ned Westrick (bass/vocals), and Scott Treude (drums), recorded one demo they employed to secure a recording contract with New Renaissance Records. Taking the best three tracks from the demo, the threesome went to LSP Studios, owned and operated by Lentz's twin brother Les, to record their first EP. Before the EP was released in 1988, the band wrote most of what would become their first, and only, full-length album. Soon after, Mike Bullock (vocals) was introduced to Lentz at a party and joined the band the following day. They re-entered LSP Studios a short month later in November 1988 to record Getting The Most Out Of Your Extinction.
After turning the master tapes over to New Renaissance Records, the band set about touring in support of the album that was to be released in early 1989. However, the label shelved the tapes. The band continued to tour and build a cult following all over the eastern United States, all the while awaiting the release of their record.
In late 1989, New Renaissance announced a deal to open a new label, Colossal Records in partnership with Restless Records and assured the four members of Ironchrist their record would be one of the new labels first releases. By the time the album finally arrived on store shelves, well over two years after they recorded it, Ironchrist had temporarily disbanded. Vocalist Mike Bullock then joined label mates Indestroy who were having similar troubles with New Renaissance/Colossal Records.
After Getting The Most Out Of Your Extinction was finally released in 1990, the band reformed with guitarist Rod Reddish replacing Tristan Lentz, who had moved on to explore a hard rock/fusion style he had experimented with while in Ironchrist. The band completed a tour of the Mid-Atlantic and Southern US States over the course of the next year before Bullock left to resume playing with Indestroy in 1991. The band continued without Bullock, with Westrick taking over the vocal duties for a short time before ultimately disbanding.
In 2012 Divebomb/Tribunal Records released a re-mastered, deluxe edition of Getting The Most Out Of Your Extinction that included the first self-titled EP and remaining tracks from the band's first demo.

Ironchrist spent the majority of 1990–1991 in the College Music Top 100, thanks in great part to several college DJs that were familiar with the band through their connection to the metal tape trading movement popular in the 1980s.[citation needed]

Hellhammer was a Swiss metal band from Nürensdorf, active from 1982 to 1984. Although the band's sound and style were heavily criticized and poorly reviewed during their active years, they have been widely praised in retrospect and are often regarded as a key influence on black metal. In June 1984, Hellhammer disbanded but two of its members soon formed the influential extreme metal band Celtic Frost.
Siege is an American hardcore punk band from Weymouth, Massachusetts. Formed in 1981, they were active in the Boston hardcore scene from 1984 to 1985, and reunited briefly in 1991. Guitarist Kurt Habelt and drummer Rob Williams reformed the band in 2016.
Amebix were an English crust punk band. Formed as the Band with No Name, the band's original run was from 1978 to 1987, during which time they released two EPs and three albums. The group reunited in 2008, released another full-length album in 2011, and disbanded again in November 2012.
Doom are an English hardcore punk band from Birmingham whose first lineup were together from 1987 to 1990. Despite its short existence, the band is considered pivotal in the rise of crust punk, a punk rock style that fuses extreme metal with anarcho-punk. They recorded for Peaceville Records and are cited as an early precursor to grindcore. Doom were also a favourite of BBC Radio DJ John Peel.

Celestia was a French black metal band from Avignon, formed in 1995 by Noktu. Noktu was the only consistent member of the band. Celestia disbanded in 2015.
Atomkraft are an English speed metal band from Newcastle, who were part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement. They formed in 1979, disbanded in 1988, and reformed in 2005. Their "Total Metal" approach draws inspiration from fellow NWOBHM bands such as Motörhead and Venom, punk rock bands such as The Dickies, and early Exodus or Slayer. Lead vocalist/bassist Tony Dolan also fronted Venom for a number of years in the late 1980s and 90s.
Fecal Matter was a short-lived punk rock band from Aberdeen, Washington. The group was formed in 1985 by Kurt Cobain, the future frontman of Nirvana, along with Dale Crover of the Melvins and drummer Greg Hokanson. Hokanson was removed from the band over his penchant for Schmidt beer and mini thins or "witch speed", and his ensuing negative attitude. Melvins members Buzz Osborne and Mike Dillard appeared in a later version of the band during rehearsals the following year.
Embodyment was a Christian rock band, and originally Christian metal band, from Arlington, Texas which formed in 1992 and were first known by the name Supplication where they originally played death metal, later turning into a deathcore band with the release of their 1996 EP "Embodyment". Following the Embrace the Eternal, they completely abandoned all their extreme metal influences thereafter pursuing an alternative rock/alternative metal style with their album The Narrow Scope of Things and subsequently became lighter with each proceeding album.
The Accüsed is an American crossover thrash band from Seattle founded in 1981. The band was a progenitor of the crossover style that bridged the gap between thrashcore and thrash metal, later influencing grindcore and some crust punk bands; as well as an influential band in the Seattle area alternative scene. The band calls their music "splattercore", and their zombie mascot, Martha Splatterhead, appears on most of their albums. Common themes involve social issues and Martha Splatterhead coming back from the dead to slaughter rapists and child molesters.
The Kitchen Tape is a demo tape by the American rock band Weezer. It was recorded on August 1, 1992, prior to the band's signing with Geffen Records. Although the band had recorded some demos before, these were the band's most serious attempt at the time. According to Karl Koch, the band's webmaster and historian, the purpose of the tape was "...to get shows and also try to make an impression. There were no aspirations yet to try to generate real label interest, but the concept of 'creating a buzz' was being thrown around."

Impaler is a Minnesota horror rock band from the Twin Cities. Impaler formed in the spring of 1983 with founding members Bill Lindsey (vocals), Michael James Torok (guitar), "Commander" Court Hawley (bass), Robert "Meaty Bob" Johnson (drums), and Mike Senn (guitar). The band played original songs sprinkled with a few covers by favorite influential bands such as Kiss, Alice Cooper, and Motörhead. Bill Lindsey is the sole continuing member of Impaler, keeping the band alive for over 30 years.
Hogan's Heroes was an American hardcore punk band formed in New Jersey in 1984. During their time they recorded three full lengths for California label New Red Archives. The band broke up in 1993.
Mercy is the third studio album by American rock band Planes Mistaken for Stars released in 2006, and was the final album of new material before the band's 2008 disbandment. After several releases on No Idea Records, the band signed to Abacus Recordings — a short-lived heavy metal imprint of Century Media Records that also featured Ion Dissonance and Sick of It All. Guitarist Gared O’Donnell commented on the transition between labels, stating: "Right after Up in Them Guts [2004] came out, other labels expressed interest. We made the decision to do something different, and No Idea backed us up. They said, 'Listen, you've hit the ceiling with what we can do for you. If you want to go to another label for the next record, you have our blessing.'" Mercy was produced by the Seattle-based producer Matt Bayles and was officially released through Abacus on October 3, 2006.
