Ishara Chinthaka Nanayakkara is a Sri Lankan entrepreneur and businessman. As of December 2019, he is the Richest man in Sri Lanka. [1] He is currently serving as the deputy group chairman of the LOLC Holdings. [2] His father Rajah Nanayakkara was also a prominent businessman and he died in 2017 at the age of 77. [3]
Nanayakkara's father Rajah was an entrepreneur and founded the automobile industry through Ishara Traders in 1973 which is now regarded as the pioneer in importing reconditioned repaired vehicles from Japan to Sri Lanka. [4] Ishara at his teenage was sent to Japan for extensive training after his secondary education at Royal College, Colombo 07. He holds a diploma in Business Accounting from Australia's Dandenong College.
Nanayakkara pursued his career in financial services and started investing in finance companies such as LOLC. He was also appointed to the Board of Directors of LOLC in 2002. He also served as deputy chairman of Lanka Orix Finance from 2011 to 2018 and was appointed as the chairman of Browns Investments in 2013. [5] In September 2018, he resigned from the Board of Directors of Seylan Bank. [6]
He was appointed as chairman of LOLC in 2018 after previously serving as a board member from 2002 to 2018. Under his leadership, LOLC also reached total assets amounting to 1.008 trillion as of December 2018. [7] [8] In 2019, he eventually toppled Dhammika Perera to become the richest person in Sri Lanka after a Korean bank came forward with interest and intention to buy the LOLC's subsidiary Cambodian microfinance arm for a staggering US$603.4 million. [9] [10] [11] His Browns Healthcare was acquired by another business magnate Harry Jayawardena for 1.6 billion in February 2020. [12]
He received the prestigious Young Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards in 2012. He is the current chairman of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology.
Seylan Bank PLC is a publicly owned Commercial Bank in Sri Lanka. It has branches in both urban and rural areas of Sri Lanka. Seylan bank had 167 banking centres island-wide, 3000 staff members, an ATM network of 205 units covering crucial locations, 9 branches providing 365-day banking in 2020. The bank was formed as a licensed commercial bank incorporated with a shareholder base.

He was listed in the 2007 Sri Lanka Richest List. He was remanded for the misappropriation of 26 billion rupees of investments from the failed Golden Key Credit Card Company .
Ajith Nivard Cabraal is a Sri Lankan accountant and politician who was also the 16th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. He is also the former State Minister of Finance, Capital Markets and State Enterprise Reforms and a national list member of parliament since 12 August 2020. He served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, holding the post from 1 July 2006 until his resignation on 9 January 2015. He again became the Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka in September 2021, replacing W. D. Lakshman, and resigned again in April 2022.

Kulappu Arachchige Don Dhammika Perera, commonly known as Dhammika Perera, is a Sri Lankan billionaire businessman and politician. A top corporate raider, he is one of the wealthiest people in Sri Lanka, controlling 23 listed companies on the Colombo Stocke Exchange. Perera owns a controlling stake in the conglomerates Hayleys and Vallibel One, a company he founded. Through Hayleys, Perera controls Amaya Leisure, The Kingsbury and Singer while Royal Ceramics, LB Finance, and Lanka Tiles are controlled by Vallibel One. Perera has been closely linked to the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, having served as chairman of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka from 2007 to 2010 and Transport Secretary from 2011 to 2015. He was appointed a Member of Parliament in the National List in June 2022, succeeding Basil Rajapaksa from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, briefly serving President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as his Minister of Investment Promotion from June to July 2022.
Ranee Jayamaha also spelt as Rani Jayamaha is a Sri Lankan economist, author and banker. She served as the chairperson of Hatton National Bank from 2011 to 2015. In addition, she is currently an advisor to the President of Sri Lanka in Banking and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (2004–2009). She has also served as a member of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka and a member of Securities and Exchange Commission.
Lakshman Arjuna Mahendran is a Sri Lankan-born Singaporean economist and banker. He is a former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), having been appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena in January 2015 and served until the end of his term on 30 June 2016. He was the former Managing Director of HSBC Private Bank, Chief Investment Officer of Emirates NBD as well as chairman and Director-General of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. Mahendran is currently residing in Singapore, which has refused to extradite him on a request from Sri Lanka routed through interpol.

The company was founded by James Brown, a 25-year-old engineer and mechanic from London who arrived in Ceylon in 1872. In 1892, the company was incorporated and in 1991 the company became a listed company on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company was included in S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index in June 2021. Brown and Company is one of the LMD 100 companies, an annual list of Sri Lankan listed companies by revenue, having ranked 42nd in the 2020/21 edition.
LOLC Finance PLC is a non-banking financial company based in Sri Lanka. LOLC Holdings is the ultimate parent company of LOLC Finance. The company was founded as LOLC Finance Company Limited in 2001. In 2003, the company changed its name to Lanka ORIX Finance Company and commenced operations. Lanka ORIX Finance Company became a public company in 2011 with its listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company adopted its current name in 2015. LOLC Finance is one of the LMD 100 companies in Sri Lanka. The company is also one of the 100 most valuable brands in the country. LOLC Finance has been a constituent of the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index since the end of 2021. LOLC Finance merged with its sister company, Commercial Leasing & Finance PLC in 2022. The Golden Key Credit Card Company (GKCCC) was a leading Sri Lankan financial institution specializing in credit card services, and a subsidiary of the Ceylinco Consolidated. Founded on June 3, 1977, it was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Ceylinco Group, an extensive conglomerate with more than 300 subsidiaries. GKCCC played a pioneering role in establishing the credit card industry in Sri Lanka in the early 1980s. Notably, it was responsible for setting up the initial Merchant Network utilized by all credit card companies in the country.
Darshan Ravindra Abeysuriya also popularly known as Ravi Abeysuriya was a Sri Lankan accountant, educator and financial analyst. He was regarded as one of the topmost finance sector professionals in Sri Lanka. He was also considered as officially the first Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder in Sri Lanka. He also served as the President of the Colombo Stock Brokers Association for a brief stint.
