Island Whirl (foaled March 17, 1978) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse and the winner of the 1983 Whitney Handicap. [1]
Island Whirl's first race was on May 31st, 1980 at Calder, where he came in 8th. It took him until his 3rd race on October 29th, 1980 at Calder, to capture a win.
Island Whirl captured his first stakes win on September 4th, 1981, at the El Cajon Stakes. He then captured his second stakes win at the Super Derby at Louisiana Downs. [1]
Island Whirl captured his first graded race win on January 3rd, 1982, by winning the Malibu Stakes. He competed in multiple other graded races throughout 1982, but did not see another graded win until he won the 1982 Woodward Stakes on September 4th. His wins throughout 1982 helped him gain entry to the 1982 Jockey Club Gold Cup, where he placed 4th.
During the summer of 1983, Island Whirl picked up two major graded wins in a row by winning the 1983 [Hollywood Gold Cup @ Hollywood Park ] [2] and the 1983 Whitney Handicap, which turned out to be the last wins of his career.
He finished off his career with a 2nd place finish at the 1983 Monmouth Handicap and a 5th place finish at the 1983 Woodward Stakes on September 3rd, 1983. [1]

Cigar, was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Originally campaigned on turf tracks he showed useful but unremarkable form, but he emerged as an outstanding performer when switched to racing on dirt in 1995. In 1996, he became the first American racehorse racing against top-class competition to win 16 consecutive races since Triple Crown winner Citation did so between 1948 and 1950. Cigar retired as the leading money earner in Thoroughbred racing history and was later inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. After his retirement from racing he stood as a breeding stallion but proved to be infertile and was quickly retired from stud duties. He nevertheless enjoyed a long retirement at Kentucky Horse Park before dying at the age of 24.

Easy Goer was an American Champion Hall of Fame Thoroughbred racehorse known for earning American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt honors in 1988 and defeating 1989 American Horse of the Year Sunday Silence in the Belmont Stakes by eight lengths. Both horses were later voted into the American Hall of Fame. The victory deprived Sunday Silence of the Triple Crown. It was also the second-fastest Belmont in history, behind only the record performance of Secretariat in 1973. Easy Goer was the first two-year-old champion to win a Triple Crown race since Spectacular Bid in 1979. Easy Goer also ran the fastest mile on dirt by any three-year-old in the history of Thoroughbred racing with a time of 1:32 2⁄5, which was a second faster than Secretariat's stakes record, and one-fifth of a second off of the world record set by Dr. Fager in 1968.
Evening Attire was a Thoroughbred racehorse who made 65 starts in a 10-year racing career, winning 15 times and earning nearly $3 million. A staple of the New York racing circuit, he scored his biggest victory in the 2002 Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Hedley John Woodhouse was a Canadian jockey who won the New York state riding championship in 1953. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, he began his racing career there in 1937 at the Lansdowne Park racetrack as an apprentice with A.C.T. Stock Farm owned by industrialist Austin C. Taylor. Woodhouse's ability would soon see him racing at tracks along the West Coast of the United States and in 1944 he rode Happy Issue to victory in the Grade I Vanity Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California.
Saint Liam was an American thoroughbred racehorse who was voted 2005 Eclipse Award Horse of the Year honors after winning the Donn Handicap, Stephen Foster, Woodward Stakes and Breeders' Cup Classic.
