Background

Owolabi was born on 27 April 1935 at Ayegbaju Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He had his secondary education at Christ's School Ado Ekiti, (1951–1955), and tertiary education at the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Ibadan (1956–1958) for his GCE Advanced Level, University College, Ibadan, (1958–1961) for his B.Sc., (Hons) physics. [2] He received his Ph.D. in physics from Durham University (1961–1964). [3]

Career

He started university teaching career as lecturer at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, in the Department of Physics (1964 -1971) and moved to the newly established Department of Electronics, Faculty of Technology, as senior lecturer (1971–1976) and reader (1976–1978) of the same university. He transferred his service to the University of Ilorin as the pioneer professor of electrical engineering in 1978. He became the dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (1980–1984) and deputy vice-chancellor (DVC) (1989–1993) and served as the head of the Department of Electrical Engineering in between the posts of dean and DVC. After retiring voluntarily in 1993, he has served continuously on contract basis as professor of electrical/electronic engineering at the University of Ilorin (1993–2000), Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso (2001–2005), University of Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University (EKSU) (2005–2010), [6] and currently Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado-Ekiti, 2010 to date. [7] For senior university administrative experience, Owolabi has served on the Governing Councils of the University of Ife as Congregation Representative (1976–1978), University of Ilorin (1980–1984) as Senate Representative and (1989–1993) as DVC. He is currently serving on the Council of ABUAD as Senate Representative. He has been a member of Senate of the universities of Ife, Ilorin, LAUTECH, EKSU and ABUAD continuously from 1976 to date.

Lawrence Oluwawemimo Arokodare was a Nigerian civil engineer. He was the founding Partner of the firm Etteh Aro and Partners, a foremost indigenous Civil Engineering Consultancy Firm in Nigeria. He was a native of Ijero Ekiti in Ekiti State, South-West of Nigeria. He began his career in Ove Arup and Partners in 1964 and worked there till 1970 when he began private practice with his undergraduate classmate. His philosophy of developing indigenous capacity in the Civil Engineering profession has led the firm he co-founded to sponsor over 55 engineering personnel for postgraduate studies outside Nigeria. He was involved in the design and supervision of several Civil Engineering projects during his lifetime.

Adewale Oke Adekola was a Nigerian engineer, academic, author, and administrator. He was the first Nigerian dean of engineering and head of civil engineering at the University of Lagos. He was the founding vice chancellor of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi and emeritus professor of the University of Lagos. He was a pioneer of engineering education in Nigeria and reputed as a great teacher. He became one of the first Nigerians to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) in 1976 - awarded by London University in engineering.

Mojeed Olujinmi Alabi is a Nigeria politician, lawyer, university teacher, and dual faculty Professor in the Department of Political Science and Professor in the Department of Public and International Law of the Osun State University, Nigeria. He holds bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in each of political science and law. Prof. Micheal Oluwafemi Ajisafe is a Nigerian academic, sport enthusiast and the Board of Trustees (BOT) and Council of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has appointed Prof. Michael O. Ajisafe, as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the four-year old university with effect from January 5, 2014.

Olubola Babalola is a Nigerian quantity surveyor and academic and researcher. She is a professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife, where she has taught since 1993. She is the first female professor of quantity surveying in Africa. She served as the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

Anthony Olusegun Adegbulugbe is a Nigerian professor of Energy Planning and Management, notable for his significant contributions to Nigeria's energy industry. He is the third chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University and will officially resume office by December 8, 2023. Adegbulugbe served as a special adviser on Energy to Former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria. He was a Member of the National Economic Management Team, and the Chairman of the National Gas to Power initiative between 2005 and 2007. Adegbulugbe was a contributor to the inter-governmental panel on Climate change (IPCC) Assessments reports which won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with former US Vice President Al Gore. He has played a crucial role in shaping energy policies in Nigeria.
