The Centro Italiano Studi Vessillologici (Italian Centre of Vexillological Studies), or CISV, is a free, non-profit association of vexillology and heraldry lovers. The centre aims principally at promoting vexillological studies and preserving related documents. It was founded in 1972 in Turin and is a FIAV member since 1973.
Starting from 1974, the centre has an official, six-monthly, journal called Vexilla Italica (Latin for "Italian Flags"), reserved to its members.

Vexillology is the study of the history, symbolism and usage of flags or, by extension, any interest in flags in general. The word is a synthesis of the Latin word vexillum ("flag") and the Greek suffix -logia ("study").
Flags of the World is an Internet-based vexillological association and resource. Its principal project is the Internet's largest website devoted to vexillology, containing comprehensive information about all kinds of flags, and an associated mailing list. The mailing list began as a discussion group in about September 1993, while the website was founded by Giuseppe Bottasini in late 1994, and Rob Raeside took over as director in 1998. Flags of the World became the 56th member of the FIAV in 2001.
Whitney Smith Jr. was a professional vexillologist and scholar of flags. He originated the term vexillology, which refers to the scholarly analysis of all aspects of flags. He was a founder of several vexillology organizations. Smith was a Laureate and a Fellow of the International Federation of Vexillological Associations.
The North American Vexillological Association (NAVA) is a membership organization devoted to vexillology, the scientific and scholarly study of flags. It was founded in 1967 by American vexillologist Whitney Smith (1940–2016), and others. Its membership of 500+ comprises flag scholars, designers, collectors, conservators, educators, merchants, manufacturers, historians, and hobbyists.
The International Federation of Vexillological Associations is an international federation of 52 regional, national, and multinational associations and institutions across the globe that study vexillology, which FIAV defines in its constitution as "the creation and development of a body of knowledge about flags of all types, their forms and functions, and of scientific theories and principles based on that knowledge."

The Flag Institute is an educational charity headquartered in London, UK. It claims to be the world's largest flag organisation. It maintains a UK Flag Registry and offers advice and guidance about flags and their usage.
William George (Bill) Crampton was a British vexillologist. His chief legacy, the Flag Institute, has hundreds of members in the UK and overseas. He was recognised as Britain's foremost authority on flags by government agencies, the flag trade, the media, publishers, librarians and vexillologists of all ages and backgrounds. He served as a president of Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques, the International Federation of Vexillological Associations.
The flag of Birmingham was designed by Idyl King Sorsby for the occasion of the semicentennial of the city of Birmingham, Alabama in 1921. The flag was officially adopted as the city's flag on August 18, 1925.
The Nordic Flag Society is an association of Nordic vexillologists. It has an official name in the languages of all the five countries in which its activities are principally based: Nordiska Flaggsällskapet (Swedish), Nordisk Flagselskab (Danish), Nordisk Flaggselskap (Norwegian), Pohjoismaiden Lippuseura (Finnish), and Norræna Fánafélagið (Icelandic). Founded in Copenhagen on 27. January 1973, the Nordic Flag Society is dedicated to the study of flags and promotion of vexillology in Scandinavia.
The Genealogical Society of Ireland is a voluntary non-governmental organisation promoting the study of genealogy, heraldry, vexillology and social history in Ireland and amongst the Irish Diaspora as open access educational leisure pursuits available to all. Founded in 1990, the Society has charitable status in Ireland and it is incorporated under the Companies Acts. Membership of the Society is open to all and therefore, the Society has both a national and international membership. The Society is also a Nominating Body for the Cultural and Educational Panel for Seanad Éireann.

The Romagnola is a traditional dual-purpose breed of chicken from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Formerly widespread in central Italy, it came close to extinction in the late 20th century. The Southern African Vexillological Association (SAVA) was formed in November 1990 to promote vexillology in Southern Africa. Members of the association are drawn mainly from flag manufacturers, collectors, military historians and generally anyone with an interest in flags. SAVA became a member of the International Federation of Vexillological Associations (FIAV) at the 14th International Congress of Vexillology held in Barcelona in 1991 and was the host of the 17th International Congress of Vexillology which was held in Cape Town in August 1997.
Fellow of the Federation is the fellowship given out by the International Federation of Vexillological Associations or the Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques.
