James Christian (Chris) Bollwage is the mayor of Elizabeth,New Jersey,the state's fourth-largest city. [2] [3] A lifelong resident of Elizabeth,he was elected into his first term in 1992,and reelected in November 1996,2000,2004,2008,2012,2016 and 2020. [2] He has been the president of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
He is a 1972 graduate of St. Mary of the Assumption High School. [4] He graduated from Kean University with a bachelor's degree in 1981 and with a master's degree in 1989. [2] [5] Kean University gave Bollwage an honorary degree in 2002. [5] Bollwage is an adjunct professor in the Public Administration Department at Kean University. [2]
Bollwage's vision of the future of Elizabeth included "Go-Green" initiatives,collegiate corridor concept,remodeling of Midtown train station,and expansion of economic development,recreation,housing and transportation. He also unveiled a foreclosure assistance program,a Healthy Elizabeth initiative and camera surveillance network. [6]

As of the 2020 United States census,the city retained its ranking as the state's fourth-most-populous city behind neighboring Newark,Jersey City,and Paterson,with a population of 137,298,an increase of 12,329 (+9.9%) from the 2010 census count of 124,969,which in turn reflected an increase of 4,401 (3.7%) from the 120,568 counted in the 2000 census.

Elizabeth Public Schools is a public school district in Elizabeth,in Union County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey,serving students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide that were established pursuant to the decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority. St. Mary of the Assumption High School was a small Catholic high school on Broad Street in Elizabeth,Union County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The high school building was a three-story brick building with a basement serving as additional classroom space for a total of four floors of education space. The school was affiliated with its parent parish,St. Mary's Church,and operated under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school had been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1992. The school also housed the K-8 grammar school,St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School. The elementary school consisted of the first floor and 3 classrooms on the second floor until its closure in June 2009.

Incumbent Democratic Governor Jon Corzine ran for a second term against Republican Chris Christie,Independent Christopher Daggett,and nine others,in addition to several write-in candidates. Christie won the election,with about 48.5 percent of the vote,to 44.9 percent for Corzine and 5.8 percent for Daggett. He assumed office on January 19,2010. This was the first election to fill the newly created office of lieutenant governor,with the candidates for governor choosing their running mates.
