J. Grant Brittain (born 1955) is a photographer internationally recognized for his work documenting skateboarding. [1] [2] [3] Brittain has been shooting skateboarding for over 30 years. [4] [5] [6]
In his early 20s, Brittain got a job at the Del Mar Skate Ranch, starting work on the second day the skatepark was open. [3]
Brittain began photographing skateboarding in 1979 at Del Mar. [3] Brittain photographed many professional skateboarders skating at Del Mar including Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, and many others. [3] Brittain became one of the first professional skate photographers to make a living photographing skateboarding. [3]
In 1983, Brittain helped found Transworld Skateboarding working as an Editor and Senior Photographer. [3] [7] [8]
While working at Transworld, Brittain also provided content to creators of self-published skate zines, such as Steve Caballero's SPEED Zine, published in the mid 1980s. [9]
Steve Caballero is an American professional skateboarder. He is known for the difficult tricks and air variations he invented for vertical skating and for setting the long-standing record for the highest air achieved on a halfpipe. In 1999, Thrasher Magazine named Caballero the "Skater of the Century".
Danny Way is an American professional skateboarder and business person. He was awarded Thrasher magazine's "Skater of the Year" award twice. He is known for extreme stunts, such as jumping into a skateboard ramp from a helicopter; that was featured on the cover of Transworld Skateboarding magazine. One of his more notable stunts was jumping the Great Wall of China on a skateboard via megaramp.
Robert Lance Mountain is an American professional skateboarder and artist who was one of the prominent skateboarders throughout the 1980s, primarily due to his involvement with the Bones Brigade. As of August 2017, Mountain continues to skate professionally and his sponsors include Flip, Nike SB, Indy, Spitfire, and Bones Bearings.

Transworld Skateboarding (TWS) is an international magazine on skateboarding that was based in Carlsbad, California, United States. The publication also ran an accompanying website and video production company. In February 2019, the publishers of Transworld magazine, The Enthusiast Network, were purchased by American Media, Inc. In March 2019, the print edition of Transworld magazine was discontinued. It continues as a digital brand.

Slap Magazine is an American skate magazine created by Kevin Thatcher and Fausto one late night when they sparked an idea to create their own competition. At the time they ran Thrasher Skateboard Mag. The next day they put Lance Dawes in charge of it (1992), while he worked for Thrasher. Slap was distributed by High Speed Productions for 16 years. The Slap Magazine website still serves as a highly popular message board for skateboarding content and conversation.
