J. Paul Tanner (born January 24, 1950) is the Vice President and Academic Dean of the Arab Center for Biblical Studies and a research professor and writer in the field of Old Testament studies. He has taught on the faculty of the International Graduate School of Leadership (Philippines), East Asia School of Theology (Singapore), Singapore Bible College, and Jordan Evangelical Theological Seminary. Educational background

Tanner graduated from Abilene High School in 1968, and then with a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1972. Following three years of service in the U.S. Army (1973–1976), he enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX, graduating with honors in 1981 with a Th.M. in Hebrew and Old Testament Studies. After teaching in the Philippines (1983–1985) and in California (1985-1986), he pursued further graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, from which he earned a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies with a concentration in Hebrew language and literature in 1990. During his doctoral studies, he received the Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS Fellowship) awarded by the United States Dept. of Education. His doctoral dissertation ("Textual Patterning in Biblical Hebrew Narrative; A Case Study in Judges 6–8") explored the use of ancient Hebrew literary techniques and rhetorical criticism in the field of Old Testament narrative literature. Research interests

Tanner’s research interests are primarily in Old Testament studies and biblical prophecy, while also writing course material for the Arab Center for Biblical Studies. He is the author of the highly-acclaimed commentary on The Book of Daniel for the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary series (Lexham Press, 2020). In addition, he has written commentaries on The Epistle to the Hebrews and the Book of Revelation. He is the author of The Prophets of Old Testament Israel, as well as The Rapture Promise; Its History and Fulfillment at Christ’s Return. He is currently researching and writing a new book for publication in late 2025, Salvation; The Most Incredible Gift From The Most Magnificent God.

When the academic community looked down upon Evangelicals, Bruce demonstrated that a scholar holding evangelical views could do worthwhile academic work. He persuaded Evangelicals that they should not turn their backs on academic methods of Bible study, even if the results might differ from traditional evangelical views. As a result, he has been called the "Dean of Evangelical Scholarship".

Darrell L. Bock is an American evangelical New Testament scholar. He is executive director of Cultural Engagement at The Hendricks Center and Senior Research Professor of New Testament studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) in Dallas, Texas, United States. Bock received his PhD from Scotland's University of Aberdeen. His supervisor was I. Howard Marshall. Harold Hoehner was an influence in his NT development, as were Martin Hengel and Otto Betz as he was a Humboldt scholar at Tübingen University multiple years.

Daniel Isaac Block is a Canadian/American Old Testament scholar. He is Gunther H. Knoedler Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Wheaton College.

Samuel Lewis Johnson Jr., was an American conservative evangelical pastor and theologian, was for many years a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. Johnson was a moderate dispensationalist and a Five-point Calvinist in his soteriology. He was a Biblical scholar and theologian of "rare abilities" and of international renown.

Willem A. VanGemeren is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
