Jagannath Venkanna Shetty was an Indian banker. He was Chairman and Managing Director of Canara Bank, Chairman of Indian Banks' Association [1] from January 1993 - August 1994. He also headed the J. V. Shetty Banking Committee of India which decided on the crucial issue of consortium lending by Indian Banks. [2]

Canara Bank A Public Sector Bank in India

Canara Bank is one of the largest public sector banks owned by the Government of India. It is headquartered in Bengaluru. It was established at Mangalore in 1906 by Ammembal Subba Rao Pai. It is one of the oldest public sector banks in the country. The government nationalized the bank in 1969.The Tagline of Canara Bank is "Together we Can".As of 31 March 2019, the bank had a network of 6310 branches and more than 8851 ATMs which are spread across 4467 centers. The bank also has offices abroad in London, Hong Kong, Moscow, Shanghai, Dubai, Tanzania and New York.

Indian Banks' Association (IBA), formed on 26 September 1946 as a representative body of management of banking in India operating in India - an association of Indian banks and financial institutions based in Mumbai. With an initial membership representing 22 banks in India in 1946, IBA currently represents 237 banking companies operating in India. IBA was formed for development, coordination and strengthening of Indian banking, and assist the member banks in various ways including implementation of new systems and adoption of standards among the members.

Shetty died on 17 November 2014 at the age of 78. [3]

Raghuram Govind Rajan is an Indian economist and an international academician who is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between September 2013 and September 2016. Between 2003 and 2006, Rajan was the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund. In 2015, during his tenure at the Indian Reserve Bank he became the Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements.

Harcourt Butler Technical University Pride Of United Provinces

Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU)(formerly HBTI) is a state technical university located at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh in India. The HBTU was named after Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, governor of the United Provinces in British India. All Its programs have been conferred in autonomous status under the university. C. D. Deshmukh Indian politician

Sir Chintaman Dwarakanath Deshmukh, CIE, ICS was an Indian civil servant and the first Indian to be appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India in 1943 by the British Raj authorities. He subsequently served as the Finance Minister in the Union Cabinet (1950–1956). It was during this time that he also became a founding member of the Governing Body of NCAER, the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi, India's first independent economic policy institute established in 1956 at the behest of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. After resignation from Union Cabinet he worked as Chairman of UGC(1956–1961). He served as Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi (1962–67). He was also President of Indian Statistical Institute from 1945 to 1964, Honorary Chairman of National Book Trust (1957–60). He founded India International Center in 1959 and served as Lifetime President of it. He was also chairman of Indian Institute of Public Administration.

The state of Karnataka, particularly the region comprising the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, is called the cradle of banking in India. This is because seven of the country's leading banks, Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank, Corporation Bank, Vijaya Bank, Karnataka Bank, Vysya Bank and the State Bank of Mysore originated from this state. The first five in the above list of banks were established in the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. These districts have one among the best distribution of banks in India - a branch for every 500 persons. Between 1880 and 1935, 22 banks were established in coastal Karnataka, nine of them in the city of Mangalore.

ING Vysya Bank Indian private sector bank

ING Vysya Bank was a privately owned Indian multinational bank based in Bangalore, with retail, wholesale, and private banking platforms formed from the 2002 purchase of an equity stake in Vysya Bank by the Dutch ING Group. This merger marked the first between an Indian bank and a foreign bank. Prior to this transaction, Vysya Bank had a seven-year-old strategic alliance and shareholding arrangement with erstwhile Belgian bank Banque Bruxelles Lambert, which was also acquired by ING Group in 1998.

Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty was an Indian Banker. He was associated with Vijaya Bank since 1946 and joined the board of directors of the bank as Chairman from 1962, became the Hon. Chairman from 1962 to 1969 resulting in growth of Vijaya bank. and then remained as full-time Chairman till 1978. Under the Chairmanship of Shri Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty, Vijaya Bank steadily grew into a large All India Bank with nine smaller banks merging with it during 1963-1968. During the year 1965, the Bank registered its own logo.

Vaddarse Prabhankar Shetty, better known as V.P. Shetty, is an Indian banker who is the Chairman of JM Financial Asset Reconstruction Co. Pvt. Ltd., JM Financial Asset Management Co. Pvt. Ltd. and JM Financial Products Ltd. He retired as Chairman and Managing Director of IDBI Bank in 2007. Before joining IDBI, he was also Chairman and Managing Director of UCO Bank and Canara Bank. He began his career with Vijaya Bank. Currently, he is a member of the Banking Codes and Standards Board of India.

Yaga Venugopal Reddy, better known as Y. V. Reddy, is an Indian economist and a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1964 batch belonging to Andhra Pradesh cadre. Reddy served as governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 6 September 2003 until 5 September 2008.

Banking Codes and Standards Board of India

The Banking Codes and Standards Board of India (BCSBI) is an independent banking industry watchdog that protects consumers of banking services in India. The board oversee compliance with the "Code of Bank's Commitment to Customers". It is not a compensation mechanism and looks into an individual complaint only to the extent it points to any systemic compliance failure. It is an independent and autonomous body, registered as a separate society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on 18 February 2006. The Reserve Bank of India extended financial support to the Board, meeting its expenses for the first five years.

Buldana Urban Cooperative Credit Society was formed on 15 August 1986. Chairman (Mr.) Radheshyamji Chandak started it with capital of 210 USD and 72 members. In a span of 27 years and mainly in last decade under managing director Dr Sukesh Zamwar, the Credit Society has grown to size of 1.1 billion dollar business with more than half a million (700,000) membership. The area of operation is mainly in central and western India in four states of India. Now the society has 333 branches and 5000 employee and 300 warehouses. Total built up area for Warehouse is 5,000,000 sq feet and capacity of 435,000 metric tons. It maintains a presence in most of the metro cities of India and also in rural areas.
