Jack Cassar (born January 19, 1997) is a Canadian professional football linebacker for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Cassar played U Sports football for the Carleton Ravens from 2016 to 2019. [1] [2] He played in 31 regular season games where he had 153.5 tackles, eight sacks, and one interception. [2] He was named a U Sports First Team All-Canadian and the OUA Stand-up Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 as he played in seven games where he had 44 tackles, four sacks, seven tackles for a loss, and one fumble recovery. [3]
Cassar was drafted in the second round, 11th overall, in the 2020 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts, but did not play in 2020 due to the cancellation of the 2020 CFL season. [4] He then signed with the team on March 25, 2021. [4] Cassar made the team following training camp and played in his first career professional game on August 7, 2021, against the Calgary Stampeders. [5] However, he suffered a hip injury in that game and was placed on the team's six-game injured list. [6] He returned to play on October 6, 2021, against the Ottawa Redblacks, where he earned his first professional start at middle linebacker, in just his second professional game. [6]
Cassar first played gridiron football in Dubai where he attended school from grade 5 to grade 8. [7]
Jason Pottinger is a former professional Canadian football linebacker who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted second overall by the BC Lions in the 2006 CFL Draft. He played CIS football for the McMaster Marauders.
Kevin Eiben is a former professional Canadian football linebacker who is currently the defensive co-coordinator and linebackers coach for the Toronto Argonauts and of the Canadian Football League. He was drafted 26th overall by the Argonauts in the 2001 CFL Draft and spent the first 11 years of his playing career with the team, followed by one season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played for seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He is a three-time Grey Cup champion having won as a coach in 1993, 1996 and 2016.
Boseko Lokombo is a Congolese-Canadian professional Canadian football linebacker for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Oregon. Lokombo has also been a member of the Montreal Alouettes and Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, and the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL).
