James John Lewis (born 16 January 1902, date of death unknown) [2] was a Welsh footballer who played in the English Football League for Cardiff City, Newport County and Tranmere Rovers. He was born in Newport. [3]
Lewis started his career at his home town club Newport County, joined Cardiff City in 1924. Having made just one appearance for the club, during a 4–1 defeat against Bury, [4] Lewis was called into the Wales squad for the British Home Championship match against Scotland on 31 October 1925, which ended in a 3–0 defeat. [5] Lewis never played for Wales or Cardiff City again, moving to Tranmere Rovers where he went on to make over 250 appearances.
Derek Robert Tapscott was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a forward. Tapscott played for Barry Town, Arsenal, Cardiff City, Newport County, Cinderford Town, Haverfordwest County and Carmarthen Town. He also featured for the Welsh national team. Tapscott is Cardiff City's sixth highest goalscorer of all time.
Royston James Clarke was a Welsh footballer who played for Cardiff City, Manchester City, Stockport County and Wales as a winger.
Leonard Stephen Davies was a Welsh professional footballer. Born in Cardiff, he trained as a marine engineer before becoming a footballer, making his senior debut for his hometown club Cardiff City in 1919 in the Southern Football League. Cardiff joined the Football League the following year but Davies remained a reserve until establishing himself in the first team in late 1922. He scored Cardiff's first hat-trick in the Football League in January 1922 and was the club's top scorer in all competitions during the campaign.
Gilbert Ivor '"Gil" Reece was a Welsh international footballer. Described by former Wales manager Mike Smith as "a very quick player, sharp and tough", he made over 300 appearances in the Football League during spells with Cardiff City, Sheffield United, Newport County and Swansea City and won 29 caps for Wales.
William McCandless was an Irish international football player and manager. As a player McCandless normally played at left-back, most notably at Rangers where he won six Scottish Football League titles with the side. William Elvet Collins was a Welsh professional footballer and Wales international. Collins was spotted playing non-league football for Rhymney Town by Cardiff City, signing for the Bluebirds in 1923. He spent four years at Ninian Park but struggled to establish himself in the first-team, making 12 league appearances for the club. He left the club in 1929 to join Clapton Orient.
