The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is a ministerial department of the Government of the United Kingdom. It is responsible for government policy on health and adult social care matters in England, along with a few elements of the same matters which are not otherwise devolved to the Scottish Government, Welsh Government or Northern Ireland Executive. It oversees the English National Health Service (NHS). The department is led by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care with three ministers of state and three parliamentary under-secretaries of state.
An NHS foundation trust is a semi-autonomous organisational unit within the National Health Service in England. They have a degree of independence from the Department of Health and Social Care. As of March 2019 there were 151 foundation trusts.

The North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (NEAS) is an NHS foundation trust responsible for providing NHS ambulance services in North East England. Headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne, NEAS provides emergency medical services to the metropolitan boroughs of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and City of Sunderland; the ceremonial counties of County Durham and Northumberland; and the area of North Yorkshire commonly known as Teesside. NEAS was formed on 1 July 2006, following the merger of the existing North East Ambulance Service with the Tees division of the Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service (TENYAS). Northumbria Ambulance Service and County Durham Ambulance Service had previously merged on 1 April 1999.
Dame Jacqueline Docherty is a British nursing administrator and medical professional, who was Chief Executive of West Middlesex University Hospital in February 2009 until its merger with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, having previously served as Director of Nursing, Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Executive at King's College Hospital, London.
Dame Josephine Williams is a British administrator and social worker who was the chief executive of Mencap until 1 November 2008. She chaired the Care Quality Commission between 2010 and 2012.

Newcastle General Hospital (NGH) was for many years the main hospital for the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. As part of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust moving from three to two key sites, the hospital was closed and the majority of services transferred to the city's other two hospitals, the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital. The Accident and Emergency Department and Intensive Care closed on 16 November 2010. A walk-in centre for minor ailments and injuries remained on the site.
Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was an NHS foundation trust which ran Worthing Hospital, Southlands Hospital in Shoreham-by-Sea and St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, West Sussex, England and served a population of around 450,000 people across a catchment area covering most of West Sussex. It was formed through a merger in 2009 and started with a substantial inherited deficit, mortality issues and poor performance. It merged into University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in 2021.
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the Shelford Group of University Teaching Hospitals and an NHS Foundation Trust. It provides acute medical services in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, at Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital, the Campus for Ageing and Vitality, Newcastle Dental Hospital, Newcastle Fertility Centre and the Northern Genetics Service. The Great North Children's Hospital also is part of the trust and is located linked with RVI on the same site.

Sir Leonard Raymond Fenwick, CBE is an English hospital executive, who until August 2017 was the Chief Executive of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, from where he was sacked after being found guilty of Gross Misconduct.
Genomics England is a company set up and owned by the United Kingdom Department of Health and Social Care to run the 100,000 Genomes Project. The project aimed in 2014 to sequence 100,000 genomes from NHS patients with a rare disease and their families, and patients with cancer. Sir James Mackey, Chief Executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, was appointed to be Chief Executive of NHS Improvement in October 2015 as a two-year secondment. He confirmed that he intended to return to Northumbria. He resumed his post as Chief Executive at Northumbria Healthcare Trust in November 2017.
