Jackson Oswalt (born 19 January 2005) holds the Guinness World Record for the youngest person to achieve nuclear fusion, at the age of 12 years. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] Oswalt created a Fusor in a home laboratory in Memphis, Tennessee, using his parents' financial help to purchase the needed equipment from EBay. [7]
The design and construction of this mini-reactor was not easy or cheap. It took Oswalt roughly a year and something between $8,000 and $10,000 to get it together and make it work. Oswalt stated that he achieved fusion on January 19, January 30, and January 31. The fusion of the deuterium atoms led to the release of neutrons . The Fusor Research Consortium currently lists members as fusioneers. However, at his record young age, Oswalt appears to be its star achiever. Jackson says that he saw that potential in science and scientific research, so that’s where he decided to direct his energy. He started by doing a lot of online reading about important achievements in various fields.
Over the next several months, he threw himself into the work of producing nuclear fusion. His DIY project at home began to shape his academic interests at his school, MUS, and he started to think about what he could pick up there that would help him reach his goal.
The city Council of Memphis honoured Oswalt for his achievement [8]
Oswalt did BS from University of Southern California.
