Jaco van Schalkwyk (born 13 September 1979) is a former South African rugby union player [1] and currently a coach at the Future Kings. [2]

He started his career with Western Province until 2002, when he moved to the Free State Cheetahs. During his spell there, he played Super Rugby for the Cats, as well as playing for the South Africa sevens team in 2003 to 2004. In 2006, he joined the Golden Lions, also playing for the Lions in Super Rugby. In 2009, he joined the Eastern Province Kings, where he played until 2011 before taking up a coaching role with the Future Kings.

The Southern Kings were a South African professional rugby union team that competed in Super Rugby and Pro14. They were based in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province and played their home matches at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. They were created in 2009, and had their first match against the British & Irish Lions during their 2009 tour. After competing in Super Rugby in 2013, 2016 and 2017, they joined Pro14 prior to the 2017–18 season, along with the Cheetahs.

In 2011, the Eastern Province Kings participated in the Currie Cup First Division and the Vodacom Cup. As part of the Southern Kings franchise, a number of players also participated in friendlies for this franchise, as well as the 2011 IRB Nations Cup.

Mpho Mbiyozo is a former South African rugby union player who played with Western Province and the Eastern Province Kings between 2005 and 2013. He usually played as a flanker.

Barend Pieterse is a South African former rugby union footballer and currently the lineout coach of the Eastern Province Kings and Southern Kings.

Gary Jacques van Aswegen is a South African former rugby union player that played as a fly-half throughout his career. He represented Western Province in the domestic Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup competitions between 2010 and 2014 and the Stormers in Super Rugby from 2011 to 2013. He also played for the Eastern Province Kings in 2014 and 2015. He retired after the 2015 season, aged 25.

The 2014 Currie Cup Premier Division was the 76th season in the competition since it started in 1889 and was contested from 9 August to 25 October 2014. The tournament is the top tier of South Africa's premier domestic rugby union competition.

In 2014, the Eastern Province Kings will participate in the Currie Cup and the Vodacom Cup competitions. The Eastern Province U21 team will also play in the 2014 Under-21 Provincial Championship and the Eastern Province U19 team in the 2014 Under-19 Provincial Championship. As part of the Southern Kings franchise, a number of players also participated in friendlies for this franchise.

In 2016, the Southern Kings participated in the 2016 Super Rugby competition, their second appearance in the competition after also playing in 2013. They were included in the Africa 2 Conference of the competition, along with Jaguares, Lions and Sharks.

Andries Johannes van Schalkwyk is a South African-born rugby union player who played internationally for Italy in 2016 and 2017. His position is number 8 and he last played for the Southern Kings in the Pro14.

Robert Bruce Kempson is a South African former rugby union footballer, and the Director of High Performance and interim head coach of the Southern Kings in Pro14.
