The 1896 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the I Olympiad and commonly known as Athens 1896, was the first international Olympic Games held in modern history. Organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which had been created by French aristocrat Pierre de Coubertin, it was held in Athens, Greece, from 6 to 15 April 1896.

He is a three-time European champion having won the −80 kg title at the European Taekwondo Championships in 2010, 2012 representing Great Britain and 2014 representing the Isle of Man, and was the world junior champion in the −78 kg division in 2008.
Nesar Ahmad Bahawi, born March 27, 1984, in Kapisa Province) is an Afghan Taekwondo practitioner. He won the silver medal in the lightweight category (72 kg) at the 2007 World Taekwondo Championships, edging out 2004 Olympic Champion Hadi Saei in the semifinals. It was the second international medal for Afghanistan in any sport – the first was one by Badamgul Multazim, a heavyweight Taekwondo practitioner.
Chika Yagazie Chukwumerije is a male taekwondo practitioner from Nigeria. The son of Nigerian politician Uche Chukwumerije, Chika first drew attention in 2003 during the qualifiers for the 2003 All-Africa Games, where he eventually won a bronze medal in the Heavyweight Male category. He qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, but lost his first bout to Pascal Gentil, the eventual bronze medal winner. Nevertheless, after a period of intensive training that was funded by his father, he became one of Nigeria's best chances for a medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He won a gold medal at the 2007 All-Africa Games in the +80 kg class and qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games soon after. Although he lost to eventual silver-medal winner Alexandros Nikolaidis in the semifinals of the +80kg event, he was entered into the repechage round of the tournament. Here, after defeating Akmal Irgashev of Uzbekistan he claimed a bronze medal in the event, Nigeria's third medal of the tournament. Four years later he competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics, but did not make it past his first bout.

She represented her country at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, placing fifth in the latter competition. In 2006, Morgan became the first Australian taekwondo competitor to win a World Cup title. She started working as a coach for Turkish taekwondo club Ankaragücü in 2011.
Jade Louise Jones is a Welsh taekwondo athlete. She is the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist in the women's 57 kg category, and the 2019 World champion, 2016, 2018 and 2021 European champion and both 2015 European Games and 2023 European Games champion at the same weight, the only two-time gold medalist at her weight in the history of those Games. In 2012, she won Britain's first taekwondo Olympic gold medal. Jones was at the time the reigning Youth Olympic champion in the girls' 55 kg category, winning gold for Great Britain in 2010.
Hadi Saei is an Iranian councilor and former taekwondo athlete who became the most successful Iranian athlete in Olympic history and the most titled champion in this sport by winning 9 world class titles . Earlier in his career and in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Saei had won the Bronze medal. He was elected as member of City Council of Tehran in 2006 local elections and was reelected in 2013 but lost the 2017 election. He is one of the three most medal winners olympians in the sport of Taekwondo.

Hichem Al-Hamdouni is a retired Tunisian taekwondo practitioner. Hamdouni qualified for Tunisia in the men's welterweight category (80 kg) at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens by claiming the bronze medal and receiving a berth from the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria. Hamdouni outclassed Nigeria's Jacob Obiorah in the opening bout before losing out his next match to Turkey's Bahri Tanrıkulu in a tight decision 4–6. With his opponent advancing further into the final round, Hamdouni offered a second chance for an Olympic medal by aggressively defeating Philippines' Donald Geisler in the first repechage bout that left his opponent with a dislocated ankle and a double tendon injury. Following a straightforward triumph over an injured Filipino taekwondo jin, Hamdouni ended his Olympic campaign in the second repechage round with a default loss of 4–12 against Iran's Yousef Karami.
Craig Brown is an English taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's welterweight category. He became a member of Team GB's taekwondo squad on his major debut at the 2004 Summer Olympics, retrieved two bronze medals in the 78-kg division at the European Championships, and held a total of eight national championship titles throughout his entire career in the United Kingdom. Missing out on selection for two succeeding Olympic bids, Brown had decided to leave his British team to apply for his dual citizenship and represent Jamaica in 2013. Shortly after his immediate transfer, Brown trained full-time with Jamaican national coach Fabio Takahashi, and gave his new team a historic silver medal in taekwondo at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, he won silver and thus became only the second Jordanian to win an Olympic medal. Previously, he won the bronze medal on the welterweight division (80 kg) at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
