Jacob van der Meersch

Jacob van der Meersch was governor of Mauritius from 1644 to 1648. He was succeeded by Reinier Por. Before van der Meersch, the governor was Adriaen van der Stel.

During his time as governor, progress was made in the domain of wood-cutting and a 5 kilometer road was built. [1]

When she earned her degree as a doctor of medicine at Ghent University, where she was the first woman to conduct research and the first woman physician to graduate from the school. Although she was not allowed to pursue an academic career, De Vriese opened a private pediatric clinic and served as the director of the Children's Ward at the Bijloke Hospital in Ghent.
