Jadu Heart is an English musical duo composed of Diva Jeffrey and Alex Headford. They have gained recognition for their independent approach to music production and their exploration of multiple genres in their compositions, with notable focuses on Dream Pop, Shoegaze and Indie Rock [1]
The group formed as a result of a project assigned to Jeffery and Headford while studying at The British and Irish Modern Music Institute. The project, which tasked the class to depict a 'cycle' audibly, led Jadu Heart to create their first EP, Wanderflower. According to Jeffery, “Every song in our first EP corresponds to a different chapter in [Dina and Faro's] story.”
2016 - 2019: Wanderflower, Ezras Garden, Melt Away
The duo were known for their conceptual storytelling through their characters (Jeffery as Dina and Headford as Faro) and their "theatrical" masks seen donned during the live performances and press runs of their first two records. [3]
In 2016 they released 2 EPs; Wanderflower and Ezras Garden. These EPs were later combined and released as an A + B side compilation vinyl. The Vinyl edition also included a poster that depicted an alternate universe the band had created. [4]
In 2019 the band released their Debut album Melt Away.
2019-2023: Hyper Romance, Derealised
In 2019, the band relocated to Bristol and built a studio in a basement adjacent to a church. [5] Their subsequent album, Hyper Romance drew inspiration from local Gothic architecture, a passion for folk horror films, and the band's growing interest in Pagan rituals. This imagery permeates the album's music videos and sleeve design, reflecting the band's artistic direction. It is also evident in the band's stylistic shift towards a guitar-driven sound, influenced by Grunge, Shoegaze, and Psychedelic folk music. [5] [6]
Coinciding with the release of Hyper Romance, the band abandoned their masks and alter egos. [7] This shift in style was accompanied by the album's opening track, Another Life, which alludes to this transformation. Notably, the track was released a week after the band posted the first picture of their unmasked faces online. [8]
They released their 3rd album "Derealised" in 2023. [9]
Better Than Ezra is an American alternative rock band based in New Orleans, Louisiana, and signed with The End Records. The band formed in 1988 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and consists of Kevin Griffin, Tom Drummond, Michael Jerome (drums), and James Arthur Payne Jr.. The band has released eight studio albums, most recently 2014's All Together Now. Shoegaze is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume. It emerged in Ireland and the United Kingdom in the late 1980s among neo-psychedelic groups who usually stood motionless during live performances in a detached, non-confrontational state. The name comes from the heavy use of effects pedals, as the performers were often looking down at their pedals during concerts.
Ride are an English rock band formed in Oxford in 1988. The band consists of vocalists and guitarists Andy Bell and Mark Gardener, drummer Laurence "Loz" Colbert and bassist Steve Queralt. They have been recognised as one of the key pioneers of shoegaze, an alternative rock subgenre that emerged to prominence in the United Kingdom during the early 1990s.

Cocteau Twins were a Scottish rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by Robin Guthrie and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde in 1983. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. They pioneered the 1980s alternative subgenre of dream pop and helped define what would become shoegaze.
Eurythmics were a British pop duo formed in 1980, consisting of Scottish vocalist Annie Lennox and English musician and producer Dave Stewart. They were both previously in the Tourists, a band that broke up in 1980. They released their first studio album, In the Garden, in 1981 to little success, but achieved global acclaim with their second album, Sweet Dreams (1983). The title track became a worldwide hit, reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart, and number one in Canada and the US Billboard Hot 100. Eurythmics went on to release a string of hit singles and albums, including "Love Is a Stranger", "There Must Be an Angel " and "Here Comes the Rain Again", before splitting in 1990.
Slowdive are an English rock band that formed in Reading, Berkshire, in 1989. The band consists of Rachel Goswell, Neil Halstead, Christian Savill (guitars), Nick Chaplin (bass), and Simon Scott, all of whom played on the band's debut studio album, Just for a Day (1991). Pale Waves are an English rock band from Manchester, formed in 2014. It was founded originally as Creek when lead singer and guitarist Heather Baron-Gracie met drummer Ciara Doran while attending university in Manchester. The other members are guitarist Hugo Silvani and bassist Charlie Wood, completing the lineup. Pale Waves's early work is often described as 80s-inspired indie rock or synth-pop; their second and third albums, however, owe more to the pop-punk genre.
