Jake O'Brien (born June 16, 2007) is a Canadian junior ice hockey player for the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He is eligible for the 2025 NHL entry draft.

Playing career

O'Brien began his junior ice hockey career with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). During the 2022–23 season, he served as team captain and recorded 16 goals and 17 assists in 34 games. During the 2023 OHL Cup he led the team in scoring with seven goals and ten assists in seven games, setting a new Toronto Jr. Canadiens OHL Cup scoring record. He was subsequently awarded the Tim Adams Memorial Trophy as MVP. [1]

O'Brien was drafted eighth overall by the Brantford Bulldogs in the 2023 OHL draft. [2] On May 4, 2023, he signed with the Bulldogs. [3] During the 2023–24 season, in his rookie season, he recorded 13 goals and 51 assists in 61 games, setting a program rookie record for assists and points. He led all OHL rookies in points, assists, power-play goals, power-play assists and points-per-game, and was awarded the Emms Family Award as rookie of the year. [4] [5] He was also named to the CHL All-Rookie Team and the OHL First All-Rookie Team. [6] [7]

On January 9, 2025, O'Brien was named captain of the Eastern Conference for the inaugural Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game. [8] [9] During the game he recorded three assists and was named MVP for Team East. [10]
