Malayalam cinema, is an Indian film industry of Malayalam-language motion pictures. It is based in Kerala, India. The films produced in Malayalam cinema are known for their cinematography and story-driven plots. In 1982, Elippathayam won the Sutherland Trophy at the London Film Festival, and Most Original Imaginative Film of 1982 by the British Film Institute. Rajiv Anchal's Guru (1997), Salim Ahamed's Adaminte Makan Abu (2011) and Lijo Jose Pellissery's Jallikkattu (2019) were Malayalam films sent by India as its official entries for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards.

Vilapangalkkappuram is a Malayalam film scripted and directed by T. V. Chandran in 2008. The film is based on the aftermath of the 2002 Gujarat riots of 2002. It was the second movie in the trilogy based on the riots by the director with the first one being Kathavasheshan and the third and final one being Bhoomiyude Avakashikal. The main female lead Priyanka won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in this film.
J. K. Rithesh was an Indian actor and member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He was a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament (MP) in the 15th Lok Sabha from Ramanathpuram constituency. In the Indian general elections of 2009, Rithesh received 294,945 votes to defeat his closest rival, Satiyamoorthy of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party by a margin of 69,215 votes. On 10 April 2014, he joined AIADMK as a primary member. He died on 13 April 2019, due to heart attack.

Priyanka Nair is an Indian model-turned-actress who predominantly works in Malayalam film industry. She made her debut in the Tamil film Veyyil in 2006. She gained critical acclaim for her roles in Bhoomi Malayalam, Vilapangalkappuram and Jalam.
Batasari (transl. Wayfarer) is a 1961 Indian Telugu-language drama film, produced and directed by Ramakrishna of Bharani Pictures. It was simultaneously made in Tamil as Kaanal Neer (transl. Mirage). Based on the Bengali novel Bardidi by Saratchandra Chatterjee, the film stars P. Bhanumathi and Akkineni Nageswara Rao, with music composed by Master Venu. Batasari was released on 30 June 1961, and Kaanal Neer on 21 July. Both versions did not succeed commercially.
Neram (transl. Time) is a 2013 Indian black comedy thriller film written, directed, and edited by Alphonse Puthren in his directorial debut. It is simultaneously made in Malayalam and Tamil languages, and it is an extended version of the short film of the same name, which he directed in 2009. It stars Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazim and Bobby Simha in both versions. Supporting roles were played by Manoj K. Jayan, Shammi Thilakan, Lalu Alex, and Willson Joseph in Malayalam, while Nassar, Thambi Ramiah, John Vijay and Shabareesh Varma portrayed the characters in Tamil.
Rakshakan is a 2007 Indian Malayalam film, directed by Thulasidas, written by A. K. Santhosh, starring Kalabhavan Mani, Manya, Ashish Vidyarthi, Jagathy Sreekumar and Riyaz Khan in the lead roles.
Oppam (transl. Along) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller film written and directed by Priyadarshan from a story by Govind Vijayan. It was produced by Antony Perumbavoor for Aashirvad Cinemas and starred Mohanlal and Samuthirakani. The film contains songs composed by the group 4 Musics, and the score was composed by Ron Ethan Yohann. N. K. Ekambaram was the cinematographer.
Anu Sithara is an Indian actress who appears predominantly in Malayalam films. She has also appeared in some Tamil Films. She made her debut in 2013 as a child artist Pottas Bomb in 2013. Anu is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and well known for her stage shows.
Kinar, titled Keni in, is a 2018 Indian drama film co-written and directed by M. A. Nishad. It was produced by the studio of Fragrant Nature Film Creations, and was made simultaneously in Malayalam and Tamil. Focusing on the issue of water scarcity in a town between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the film stars Jaya Prada and Revathi, with different sets of ensemble cast for the two versions. M. Jayachandran and Bijibal composed the soundtrack and score. Noushad Sherif was director of photography and Sreekumar Nair edited the film. Both versions were released worldwide on 23 February 2018. The Malayalam version received positive reviews while the Tamil version received negative reviews. Both versions were box-office bombs.
Akashamittayee is a 2017 Indian Malayalam-language family drama film co-directed by Samuthirakani and M. Padmakumar. Written by k. Gireesh Kumar. Scripted by Samuthirakani, it is a remake of his 2016 Tamil film Appa directed by Samuthirakani with Yuvasri Lakshmi and Nasath reprising their roles. The film stars Jayaram, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Iniya, and Sarayu in the lead roles. It was released in Kerala on 19 October 2017 coinciding with Deepavali. The movie nicely captures the area around Hindustan Newsprint Limited (HNL), located at Velloor in Kottayam District in Kerala.
Madhu Vasudevan is an Indian author, poet, lyricist and music critic who writes predominantly in Malayalam, English and Hindi. He was honored in the 45th Kerala State Film Awards, 64th Filmfare Awards South and 61st Filmfare Awards South for Best Lyricist. His songs from the movie Jalam were shortlisted for Oscar Award 2016 for original song category.
Mamangam (transl. Festival) is a 2019 Indian Malayalam-language period action film directed by M. Padmakumar, and produced by Kavya Film Company. Sajeev Pillai was the director in the first schedule, but was replaced by M. Padmakumar. It stars Mammootty in lead role, with Unni Mukundan, Achuthan and Siddique. The film is about the Mamankam festival of the 18th century in the banks of the Bharathappuzha at Tirunavaya, in the Malabar region. The film follows Chaaverukal who plot to overthrow the Samoothiri.
Visithiran (transl. Strange) is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language police procedural film directed by M. Padmakumar starring R. K. Suresh and Poorna. It is a remake of the director's own Malayalam film Joseph (2018).
Kaanal Neer (transl. Mirage) is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Chinni Jayanth. The film stars J. K. Rithesh, Chinni Jayanth and Manisha Chatterjee. It was released on 12 April 2007.
