Jallaluddin Mohammad Malik (born February 10, 1993, in Los Angeles, California), [1] better known by his stage name Jallal, is an American rapper and actor from Los Angeles, California.

Career

Music

After spending time under the mentorship of Lupe Fiasco, Jallal released his debut mixtape, Semi-Casual Love, in 2011. [2] [3] Since then, he has released a second mixtape, Unwilling Fortay, along with numerous tracks. The mixtape caught the attention of Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def), who has since served as a mentor to Jallal. [4] Jallal has opened for Bey on several stops on his US tours starting in 2013. [4]

Jallal appeared on the remix to Olivia Olson's 2013 song "Suspicious". In 2014, he released his first single, "Rocky", featuring Rick Ross and produced by DJ Moza, [5] and "Suicide", featuring BJ the Chicago Kid.[ citation needed ] In 2015, he released the single "Gone Girl", featuring RDGLDGRN. [6]

In February 2017, Jallal released the single "Imma Dog". It was produced by CashMoneyAP. [5] [7] He followed that up with "2:00 AM", produced by Goddy Beats, which Vibe magazine called "a flossy number that serves as the soundtrack for all of our late night rendezvous." [8] In May 2017, Jallal released the single "Toss & Turn" featuring Ne-Yo, produced by Hugo, James and Jan Fairchild. [1] [9] [10] In June 2017, he released the single "Never Forgotten", featuring BJ The Chicago Kid, Kaye Fox and Georgia Anne Muldrow. [11] The four tracks are included on his 15-track mixtape Off the Radar, which was released on June 14, 2017. [12] [13] It features additional appearances from 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, T-Pain and Yo Gotti,[ citation needed ] and production from Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, Elliot James of Hey Monday, and DJ Moza. [8] In March 2018, he released the single "Without Drake, Mos Def and Lupe Fiasco", produced by Killa J and DJ Moza. [14]

In 2018, Jallal put out the singles "The Truth" and "The Heat". [15] [16] In April 2019 he released the single "You Gon' See", produced by Arteen Mozafari. [17] In August 2019 he released the music video for "We Made the Same". The song features the actress Tala Ashe. [18]

The Ecstatic is the fourth studio album by American rapper Mos Def, released on June 9, 2009, by the independent record label Downtown Records. After venturing further away from hip hop with an acting career and two poorly received albums, Mos Def signed a recording contract with Downtown and recorded The Ecstatic primarily at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. He worked with producers such as Preservation, Mr. Flash, Oh No, and Madlib, with the latter two reusing instrumentals they had produced on Stones Throw Records. The work of Stones Throw rapper MF Doom was also cited by Mos Def as an influence, while singer Georgia Anne Muldrow, formerly of the record label, performed as one of the album's few guest vocalists, along with rappers Slick Rick and Talib Kweli.

Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson, known professionally as YG, is an American rapper from Compton, California. He began his recording career in 2008, and released his debut mixtape, 4Fingaz and its follow up, The Real 4Fingaz both in the following year. The latter gained recognition for its local hit song "Toot It and Boot It", which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 67 and received platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He signed with Def Jam Recordings in October 2009, who re-released the song commercially as his debut single the following year. He then signed a joint-venture recording contract with Jeezy's label, CTE World in 2013.

Mariel Semonte Orr, known professionally as Trouble, was an American rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. He released eight independent mixtapes until receiving recognition for his guest appearance alongside Migos on YFN Lucci's 2016 single "Key to the Streets," which received platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The following year, he signed with Mike Will Made It's EarDrummer Records, an imprint of Interscope Records to release his debut studio album Edgewood (2018), which entered the Billboard 200 and was supported by the single "Bring It Back". In 2020, he entered a joint venture with Def Jam Recordings to release his second album, Thug Luv in April of that year, which failed to chart. He was fatally shot in 2022.

Pretty Girls Like Trap Music is the fourth studio album by American rapper 2 Chainz. It was released on June 16, 2017 through Def Jam Recordings, as the follow-up to ColleGrove, his 2016 collaborative effort with Lil Wayne. The production on the album was handled by FKi, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Mike Dean, Mike Will Made It, and Murda Beatz, among others. The album also features guest appearances from several urban artists; Gucci Mane, Quavo, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Swae Lee, Drake, Ty Dolla Sign, Trey Songz, Jhené Aiko, Pharrell, and Monica.
