James Amuta

James Amuta (born April 12 in Lagos, Nigeria) is a film producer, director, aerial cinematographer and publicist. [1] He is best known for his documentary film "Nightfall in Lagos" which was nominated for the best documentary film in 2018 by the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Award. [2] [3]

He also served as Producer on the critically acclaimed Netflix Original Film, Oloture [4] [5] and as co-producer on the box office blockbuster, Your Excellency. [6] He is the writer/director of BiCuriosity which was shortlisted as a finalist by the Colorado Film Institute. [7]

James Amuta wrote and also served as producer on Collision Course which was selected as the AFRIFF 2021 Closing Film, [8] [9] [10] and also nominated for 4 awards at the 2021 Africa Movie Academy Award, winning 2 awards, including Prize for Achievement in Screenplay. [11]

James Amuta co-produced Elesin Oba: The King's Horseman, a Netflix film adaptation of Wole Soyinka's Death and the Kings Horseman. [12] [13]

Amuta is also a poet and has a published book "Enigma: Beyond the Poet". [14]

Collision Course, later retitled as Collision, is a 2021 Nigerian drama film directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters. It was featured as the closing film for the 10th Africa International Film Festival in November 2021 and was the opening film for the Athen’s Nollywood Travel Film Festival in May 2022.

Elesin Oba, The King's Horseman is a 2022 Yoruba-language Nigerian historical drama film directed by Biyi Bandele and distributed by Netflix, based on Wole Soyinka'sDeath and the King's Horseman, a stage play he wrote while in Cambridge, where he was a fellow at Churchill College during his political exile from Nigeria, and it is based on a real incident that took place in Yorubaland during British Colonial rule. The film stars Odunlade Adekola as the titular character, with Shaffy Bello, Brymo, Deyemi Okanlawon, Omowunmi Dada, Jide Kosoko, Langley Kirkwood, Joke Silva amongst others in supporting roles.

<i>Aníkúlápó</i> Nigerian film

Aníkúlápó is a 2022 Nigerian epic fantasy film produced by Kunle Afolayan and distributed by Netflix. Released on 30 September 2022, it stars Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale,Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Taiwo Hassan. The film was shot in Oyo State and Afolayan has described the work as a "Game of Thrones recreated in Nigeria but with a better representation of our culture ".

She was nominated for the Best Actress in a drama at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award 2022 for her role in ‘A Tune Away’. She also received critical acclaim for her roles in Nigerian's first Netflix original crime thriller series ‘Blood Sisters’ and young adult series ‘Far From Home’. One of her major film roles include ‘One Lagos Night’, 2019. She also leads as Shindara in Episode 4 of Showmax's Original Drama series ‘Crime and Justice Lagos’ 2022.

Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story is a 2023 Nigerian film directed by Kayode Kasum and predominantly tells the story of the Igbo apprenticeship system in Nigeria. The film which is the first ever feature length film on the Igbo apprenticeship system in Nigeria was also largely filmed in Igbo language. The cast includes Kanayo O. Kanayo, Stan Nze, Alexx Ekubo, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, Segun Arinze.
