James Huang (born January 11, 1977) is an American film and television actor and producer/director.
Huang (pronounced: "Hwong") was born in Queens, New York City, the youngest of ten children (five boys/five girls). He graduated from West Windsor - Plainsboro High School South in 1994. He attended Rutgers University – New Brunswick on a scholarship, majoring in theater and cinema graduating in 1998. He obtained a photography degree from UCLA in 2020. At the end of 2020 he relocated to Melbourne, Australia and launched his studio for actors The Hollywood Actor Lab. He has continued acting in Australia since.
Huang's first job after graduating from Rutgers was as a resident actor in the George Street Playhouse. After starting his career in New York, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a permanent film/television career. He worked in several areas of film and television.
He has acted professionally since 1996 in film, television, commercials, voice over and print modeling roles between New York, Los Angeles and Australia. Guest starring television appearances include Grey's Anatomy and Castle on ABC and NCIS: Los Angeles on CBS. Highlights include The Unit , Shark , Las Vegas , NCIS , Law & Order , Boldly Going Nowhere , Private Practice , Law & Order: Los Angeles , and recurring roles in ABC's Women's Murder Club , TNT's Rizzoli & Isles , General Hospital and Young Rock . He has also appeared in sitcoms including Will & Grace and The New Adventures of Old Christine . Feature film roles include the DreamWorks feature film, Eagle Eye , the Disney/Bruckheimer feature film G-Force , the 2010 alien invasion film Skyline . He plays Marcus in the 2014 film Nightcrawler .
As a director and producer, he won a Prism Award for the MTV documentary True Life: I'm Addicted to Crystal Meth. [1] He has written, produced and directed independent narrative films that have played in festivals across the country through his production company Yellow Sun Films.
Huangwrote and directed the feature film Starting from Scratch and landed a distribution deal with MouseTrap Films through their platform Film Festival Flix. The dramatic comedy won Best Comedy at the Asians on Film Festival, Best Editing and the Vanguard Award for Best Ensemble Cast from the Independent Filmmakers Showcase Los Angeles, an Honorable Mention for Best Film at the New Jersey Film Festival, and top honors for Best Feature Film at the DisOrient Film Festival. He immediately continued acting post Covid lockdown in Australia where he has worked in several television shows and commercials including Fisk, LaBrea, Joe Vs. Carole, Apple Cider Vinegar, Play Dirty, and All Her Fault. Huang also regularly voices several English dubs for Netflix series. Huang works as an actor, photographer and filmmaker and runs his own studio for actors, The Hollywood Actor Lab in Melbourne, Australia. He teaches local actors regular acting classes and provides them with filmmaking and photography.
