The Pacific Islanders was a combined international rugby union team that played from 2004 to 2008. It represented Fiji, Samoa and Tonga; Niue and the Cook Islands also supplied players to the squad for the Pacific Islanders' tour in 2004. The team did not play at Rugby World Cups, where each of the nations continued to represent themselves.

Leone is a village on the south-west coast of Tutuila Island, American Samoa. Leone was the ancient capital of Tutuila Island. Leone was also where the Samoan Islands’ first missionary, John Williams, visited on October 18, 1832. A monument in honor of Williams has been erected in front of Zion Church. Its large church was the first to be built in American Samoa. It has three towers, a carved ceiling and stained glass. Until steamships were invented, Leone was the preferred anchorage of sailing ships which did not risk entering Pago Pago Harbor. Much early contact between Samoans and Europeans took place in Leone.
Aeroflot Flight 7425 was a domestic scheduled Karshi–Ufa–Leningrad passenger flight that crashed near Uchkuduk, Uzbek SSR, Soviet Union on 10 July 1985. The crash killed all 200 occupants on board. Investigators determined that crew fatigue was a factor in the accident.
A'oloau is a village in the west of Tutuila Island, American Samoa. It is located inland, 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Pago Pago. It is also known as A’oloaufou, which means "new A’olou". An abandoned area in town by A'oloau Bay is known as A'oloautuai, which means Old A’oloau’. A'oloau's nickname is Nuu Puaolele which means the Fog Village.

The reference of "Five Stars" in the band's name denotes the five stars on the national flag of Samoa. Limalama is a Polynesian art of self-defense, created and founded by Tu’umamao "Tino" Tuiolosega (1931–2011). Tuiolosega created the word "Limalama" as a portmanteau derived from the Samoan language words lima (hand) and malamalama (understanding). Tuiolosega defined Limalama to mean "knowledge and understanding", and translated it as "hand of wisdom".

The Reformed Congregational LMS Samoan Church traces its beginnings to the Congregational Christian Church in Samoa (EFKS). Because of minor disagreements with doctrine the church had, this drove the Rev. Tepa Faleto'ese to form a newer and more modern church, The Reformed Congregational LMS Samoan Church. A Malua Theological College graduate and an Elder in the EFKS Church, Rev. Tepa Faleto'ese founded the church in Balmain, Sydney, Australia in 1992, after he retired as church minister for the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa in Aoloau, American Samoa. The Reformed Congregational Church share the same doctrines, rules and rituals as the mother church EFKS, however, do not hold the annual Fa'amati, Faiga Me or any other monetary events aside from the Aso Sa o le Talalelei taulaga. Also, its head office is based in Australia, not in Samoa. The Motto for the Church is "Fa'afaigofie, Fa'ataugofie, Fa'asa'oloto" which translates to "Simple, Humble, Free Worship".

The election coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including the larger American Samoa general election, as well as the nationwide 2016 United States House of Representatives elections and the 2016 United States general elections.
Matafao Peak is a mountain in American Samoa, on the island of Tutuila. With an elevation of 653 meters (2,142 ft), it is the highest peak on Tutuila Island. The mountain, like Rainmaker Mountain across Pago Pago Harbor, is a remnant of a volcanic plug and is part of the volcanic origins of the island. The mountain can be hiked from the high point of the Pago Pago-to-Fagasa Road. It is designated a National Natural Landmark above the 492-foot level, an area known as Matafao Peak National Natural Landmark.
